How do you hook a ball?

I expect, as virtually all of us do, he has some swing issues.

But he didn't post a video and/or ask for swing help. He simply asked how to draw the ball,,,,,,, presumably with the swing he owns now.

That's what some of us gave a few small suggestions for. Dunno1.gif

Without seeing his swing, it's pretty much impossible to say how best to accomplish that. Just about every question that starts with "looking for a drill" or "looking for advice" without posting a video, results in the same exact response. Too many golfers are delusional and think they can somehow make a change..without actually making a change lol

Thank you. I stipulated in the beginning there have to be issues. I hate how threads kinda dead end on some version of, "op's swing has faults. No video."

I agree without any further comment, and I appreciate hearing other people's feels for how to make it go left, and I appreciate your answering the actual question.

Point your feet 30 degrees right of the target, point the face at the target, swing along your feet and deliver the face square to the target. If that doesn't work, tilt away from the target to shift the path right and flip hard at the bottom.

If I want it to go way left.  Strong grip at address, make sure my left wrist is flat at the top.  Swing and release.  Release is important here, your sub conscious may try to hold off to not hook it and you may end up way right.

But my best advice, if you tend to hit a push and push fade, just line up left and hit your shot.  I worked for years to get rid of my slice and get that coveted draw to now wishing I could just hit a consistent fade.

Very typical mid cap here. Been all over the place over 5 years of play. Wrong side of 40. Inside out, but trouble closing the face.

Surely grip and backswing issues, etc, taken lessons, etc, never been fit but for a 90mph 5'9" guy, standard hasn't treated me badly.

Ok - so my struggle is with a push. Some days I hit a straight ball, most days the miss is a push that loses a lot.

Previous iterations of my typically bad swing were at times a draw, but that's been a while.

To be blunt - I want to learn how to hook the ever loving s*#t out of it.

I wanna get the feel of that for variety if nothing else.

Suggestions?

I’ll plant my trail (right) foot a little firmer on the ground during the down swing. Im other words, I’ll keep my lower body more “quiet,” or delaying the weight shift to my lead (left) leg until after ball contact.
I hope it helps. Cheers

Go find a tree and teach yourself to hook it around it. Never know when you might need that shot.

My push always ends up just inside of the right tree line, so the exit strategy is a slice, lol.

Thankfully I don't go so far right that I've got to go left-ways around a new obstacle. 😉

I have been practicing a method for controlling my draws, fades, hooks and slices. For practice I marked a ball with a blue "target" line, two red lines 12 degrees in to out and out to in and two brown lines a whopping 45 degrees in to out and out to in. For a draw I first line up my shot to my target line (lets say right of a tree) remembering this line is important as I want to make contact with the ball on the blue line. Next I close my clubface 12 degrees to square it up with the red out to in swing path line. Now when I swing on the red 12 degree in to out swing path line instead of me naturally squaring up to this swing plane my clubface will close the 12 degrees sooner making ball contact on my target line on a 12 degree in to out swing path. Just the opposite with a fade my clubface stays open the 12 degrees longer to make ball contact on my target line. In real play without the ball markings I find by pin pointing my target line, closing or opening my clubface to my desired amount, pin pointing the line through my ball my clubface now squares up to, then taking my swing back and through on the line though my ball the same amount on the opposite side of my target line to be easily done.

Put an alignment stick behind you (directly away from the target), angled roughly with the club lie angle you are hitting, slightly outside your takeaway path, tee the ball up, and put another alignment stick in front of you (near the target), just inside your swing path, angled similarly to the first. Then swing a few swings under the first alignment stick going back, and over the 2nd alignment stick going through. And concentrate on flipping the face at the ball. Do 20 little half shots like this.

To your point, you’ll start to feel the hook.

And then add 10 strokes to your handicap and bemoan the fact that you ever asked this question.
