Fitted into Mavrik with Riptide 60 - any alternatives?

Hi,

 

I am back from a driver fitting. I swing it about 90 mph and my typical miss is a pull-hook. 

Tried Sim2, Radspeed XB, Epic Speed, Mavrik and Mavrik Max with a couple of different shafts. I was exhausted after that, so no more options tested. 

Best numbers came from the standard Mavrik with a Riptide 60 5.5. I was not swinging it the fastest, but the average smash factor was the highest and no draw/hook bias. I was a bit surpised it worked better than the new Epic Speed.

Now I am wondering wether I should just go for it or if it might be wortwhile to check out more options such as G425, TSi2 etc. Would you expect major gains after the initial fitting?

You got fitted into a stock shaft...hope you didnt pay for the fitting lol

 

If you have any doubts then I doubt definitely recommend going to try the other heads. You wont know until you do - and you will always be left wondering.

FYI I got fitted into the Mavrik with the LA golf white tour shaft. While waiting on the LAG shaft to arrive, I started playing with the Riptide stock shaft. I actually like it much better and get a great ball flight and distance from it. My point, don't be afraid to keep the riptide shaft even though it is "stock". Its still a good shaft.

I agree that stock must not be bad as long as it is a quality shaft. After all, it was chosen by the manufacturer with the particular head and the typical player in mind. By the way, I believe the stock weight is 50 whereas we ended up with the 60.

Personally, I'd use the Callaway as the benchmark and keep testing until you're 100% confident. I doubt other clubs will provide performance gains, but you might find something that you think looks, sounds, and feels better. You're on a fun journey, no reason to stop now.

There are any number of other drivers out there if you want to keep demoing, but fwiw, the standard Mavrik was my favorite driver of last season.  Just a great driver, with great sound and feel, very forgiving, and controlled spin.  I switched to the Epic Max this season, which gives me most of what I had with the Mavrik last season but with more forgiveness and sliding weight.  But if I ever had to revert back to an older driver for a comfort zone, it would surely be the Mavrik.  YMMV, and good luck choosing.

Interesting. The Mavrik Max didn't work as well for me. Too much draw bias and lower smash factor. Is the Epic Max different?

The Mav has a little less draw bias than Epic Speed. I have the Riptide 60 5.5 at 45 inches and it is a smooth shaft. As long as you don't get too quick from the top, it works well.

 

I prefer the Speed but I've also juggled the swing weight to go a little heavier - D4 - to get a little more consistency, mass and ball speed at 45 inches.

I have this same set up but riptide 50 and swing about 100mph.. i love it... great feeling.. great flights... really good distance and workable. I just bought it stock but i love it. Id rather play what i love then have something i dont but it goes 5 10 yards more... not worth it to me.

Epic max plays much different than the mavrik max IMO
