I actually really like nike elite basketball socks for golf because they do provide the extra layer of cushioning. Issue is that most basketball socks they make now are calf high and they don't make as many crew height. I think I'm going to try the bombas next as they actually look good.

Balega Hidden Comfort. 

 

 

I have tried most of the brands mentioned and have several pairs of Bombas no shows in my sock drawer. I never wear the Bombas.  The Balega are that much better.  

 

Both are good in the sense that the heel never slides down on either, but Balega material is much softer and more comfortable.

 

I've given Balega as gifts to friends who are golfers as well.  Now, they only wear Balega.

Do you do the Bombas with merino wool or just the standard? Don’t see Stance Interim on the site, where do you find those?

The regular Bombas are the ones I wear - never tried the merino wool ones.  

 

The Stance performance tab socks look to be the updated version of the Interim socks.

Q for the men's size 12 Smithwick sock crowd:  What size do you prefer, L or XL?

 

According to their size chart, L is for men's sizes 10-11.5 and XL is for 12-15.

 

Hoping someone who wears 12's can chime in that has tried both sizes.

 

Looking at the Pursuit Zero (available on my wellness app store).  Almost exclusively for golf.

cloudline socks are great.  They have a cushion and weight for about anything.  Lifetime guarantee as well.  Feel softer to me than Darn Tough which is another good sock.

Size 12 and I wear the XL Swiftwick Pursuit One merino wool socks from time to time.  Perfect fit.  I walk 90% of my rounds and they are perfect.  I do like Kentwool socks better tho.

Happy with swiftwicks, but I haven’t tried others mentioned. 
 

My fiancé has some Bombas that look really nice when I’m doing laundry so I may try some of those as well.

I wear Kentwool and Swiftwick depending on which shoes I'm wearing.  Kentwool are thicker than Swiftwick, so I wear them with looser shoes.  But all of the recommendations in the above posts are also spot-on.  It's just a matter of preference.  I must own 40 pairs of Stance but I wear them mostly to work.

Old post - but if you're still searching I can't get enough of my Balegas or Feetures. They're runnings socks, but they hold up really well, don't slip, and are super comfortable.

Swiftwick I liked but after a few wears they like to fall down I have moved on to fitsok they are a great sock for the price

Another vote for Balega. I tried to like Bombas but much prefer the weight and lighter compression of the Balega.

Another Darn Tough fan. Began wearing the to hunt now wear them for everything including hiking and dressy suits. 
 

If you’re in the states, REI carries quite a few and you can earn rewards that can be used for future purposes. I know in the past that if you bought 5 pairs (I think) you also received a 10% discount.

I seem to be in the minority but I have not liked my Darn Tough socks. I have one dress sock and two thicker pairs of quarter “tactical” socks. 
 

The dress sock I think is all wool but the tactical/sport socks may be a blend. 
 

My main issue is with elasticity - they just don’t stretch and conform nicely. They’re almost a chore to put on and the dress sock has excess material that folds in weird places (like the heel, where there is curvature, or the toe area).

 

otherwise they’re mostly fine but they’re not particularly soft or supportive or fit well or anything. So I don’t really understand the hype other than the lifetime guarantee. 
 

other socks I own and like - Balega, feetures, swiftwick. Stance are okay.

You’ll Have to do a little research because I forget the name of them. But the company is owned by the pro out of Greate bay club in nj. Great socks, bought a couple pairs and wow
