F1 fans?

So...  Ferrari managed to not strategy themselves out of a victory yesterday.  Although what on earth happened to Sainz' engine?  That went up fast.  

 

DannyRic.... I don't know.  My favorite driver on the grid, but it's not a good look when your teammate gets a 5 second penalty and still gets you.  I get why he left Red Bull, but the McLaren move has really backfired.  I don't recall hearing that the money was so much better at McLaren.  Unless his contract has some clauses, his only option seems to be going to one of McLaren's IndyCar team.  FormulaE I can't imagine he would go to.  

 

Piastri may be screwed unless Dorrilton is willing to give up Latifi Sr's money.  

 

Two more teams would be nice, but some speculation is that Porsche is only coming in as a potential engine supplier not a full team, so unless a Brabham-type team comes in.....

I don't think DannyRic has it in him anymore. He had loads of natural talent when he started but it's so much more than that now. He doesn't understand the car, spends little to no time on sim, that isn't going to cut it against guys like Lando. 

 

Ferrari looked great and was totally 1 and 2 until BOOM. Max did what he could with what he had.

Does he really not spend time in the sim?  My impression was the opposite.

He has made it sound like he does when he has to, not like the young guys doing streaming endurance races between grands prix.  But he openly admitted that he knows nothing about the car and has no interest in learning.

 

Compare that to Max who is practically an engineer himself who understands everything about the car. I don't see how you can give good feedback to the design team if you don't fully understand what's going on with the car and how it reacts to certain feedback.

He's never been one to want to learn the car as you describe.  Had he been that way at RB or Renault, and not doing it now, I would agree, but it's not anything he is doing differently.  

 

I don't know enough to get further into it to say it's right or wrong, but I read somewhere that the Renault and RB cars were more rear focused, which matches his style, whereas McLaren is more front focused.  Like I said, I can type just enough to make it appear I know what I'm talking about on this matter,  but I don't know.  I know McLaren is considered an odd car compared to the others.

 

Saw something about the McLaren move having something to do with working with Zak Brown and opening opportunities in the US.  Apparently Ricciardo loves Nascar.  Would love to see him in an IndyCar.

He's not the only driver that's moved around, he just can't seem to jive with the McLaren. I feel for the guy, it would be tough to do your job with hardware that doesn't jive.

That's what I expected. It's a shame because he's fun to watch when he's driving well and he's a great personality on the grid. But I think he will do well in rallycross.

Either there are clauses in the contract, or they are eating some serious money.  For a team that only a couple years ago had to sell their headquarters, etc., just to stay afloat.....

 

I do find the statement today from him to be eerily similar to the "vote of confidence" statements owners will make about GM's, GM's about coaches, etc.  Put something on record before they chop.  Summer break is likely when it all comes out.

Well given that Alpine introduced Piastri as their replacement for Alonso, and then he came out and said no.....

I don't know what Alpine did to piss folks off, but Alonso didn't even tell them he was leaving, they heard it from the press release. 🤣 

 

They seem to have a competitive car and could end up 4th this year (best of the rest?). But I thought Oscar was a given and it seems not. I don't think he would have made a statement unless the chance of him at McLaren are strong. Unless he thinks Indy would be better, but I doubt that.

I'm glad you brought up Indy.  McLaren is in the middle of drama there as well.

Yeah, that came out later. The Alpine boss said when he saw Alonso coming out of the AM motorhome with Stroll, he asked him straight up. Alonso said he hadn't signed anything yet, so they thought there was a chance.

 

The issue was contract length. Alpine wanted a 1+1 and Alonso wanted 2+ years. At 41, a 2 year commitment is a lot to ask. Hamilton is still driving well, but look at Danny Ricc, he's clearly slipping.

I dont realize until this time of the year how much I miss having it on over the weekends.

The wife and I talked about this. I have never been to Vegas and an F1 race would be an awesome reason to go. Do a 5 day trip with 3 F1 days.

I get out there a couple times a year, absolutely love it. Night race out there will really be a spectacle. My concern is that the tickets/packages are going to be so expensive because casinos will buy out most of them to give away to their guests.

 

But the chance to see them ripping down LV Blvd at 200+ at night with the sound echoing off both sides of the Strip? Yes please.

I guess my goal would be to find a sweet package. I'm not a gambler but I like to play a few games for fun. Kinda funny that I've never been, but Tahoe is kinda more my jam. I grew up near Modesto, so it was a short drive. I've been to Reno. 🤣
