Are any of these guys on tour actually built/strong? Is fitness that impactful in golf?

I don't know what that means, yet.  But Rahm is 6'2" 220lb according to wiki.  I said along time ago he looked like he had a frame that could handle a lot of mass if he were inclined.

I also said dude was built like I am, but trimmer in the middle.  I am straight up and down, shoulders slightly more broad than waist.  Small dad belly that I can hide well.  6' 230, 36x32 pants.  17 1/2" x 35/36" dress shirt.  46 long suit jacket.

I agree with the food statement.  I can take weight off (did with KETO but fell off the keto wagon because kids like carbs and dads don't like wasted food) but I didn't feel as strong.  I have been this weight for about 18 years now.  Sort of settled into it.

What I do not like is where and how I carry the weight.  Like I said some posts back, it is all belly, love handles, back and inner thighs.  I still have well defined quads and calves and my arms and shoulders look fine.  I did notice when I did the keto thing my face thinned out some.

I hated lifting weights for sports in HS.  It was mindless and I don't have the mentality to excel at mindless stuff like that.  I just could not drive myself to get much out of it.  I don't mind a little mindless free time now.  I have enough to keep me occupied with work and family now that brain downtime is nice.

Soft body, lots of fat compared to muscle.

I am 70, 5'10, this morning 213lbs, waist is 36", 44/45" chest, mostly muscle, large bones, resting rate 58 bpm, 115/68.  For me, it's strong eastern European genetics.  When I played football, I was 235, in HS football 200, when CAT racing, quads like Heiden, 205, and 220lb during contractor work, MTN warfare training and martial arts till late 30s.  It was all free-weights back then, and cardio was cycling and running.

Sure glad my gym reopened, every other day, 1-1.5hrs machine weight circuit, 20-30 min cardio - I B happy man.

They are likely fitter than the average GolfWRX hack, but compared to other elite level athletes in aerobic/oxygen debt sports (like track or cycling, xc skiing) or head to head contact sports (like martial arts, football), I think golf is below tennis but above bowling and billiards.  I have known elite athletes (track Olympic gold and another who made the Olympic trials but missed making the final cut) and pro golfers are nowhere near that level of fitness IMHO.

I think golf is the only way any of these guys get to the Olympics as athletes is as golfers. Some sports are more about technique than fitness.

I don’t even lift anymore. Since covid, I’m a body weight mad scientist.

Here I am doing archer pushups with a weighted vest and my feet on the bed.

As long as you keep the set/rep range right and keep increasing weight month to month, you’ll gain muscle.

My back is collapsing a little there on the last rep, lol. This kills your core to stabilize for 10 reps….

I was lucky that I had a set of plate-loaded dumbbells I could load from 5 - 60lbs and a pullup bar gathering dust at home.  I got sick of doing super-slow pushups and sets of 30+ and eventually got a set of bands to load pushups.

I've been back in the gym since late April, after the parents and in-laws were vaccinated, and my absolute strength was in the toilet.   I'm basically rebuilding my squat now, and it sucks.  Part of that was losing a bunch of weight; I went from about 235 pre-pandemic (too much beer!) to a current weight of about 197.  I wrestled as a kid and decided I was going to get into that shape one more time while I'm still young enough (42).  ~15lbs to go...

I’m a CEO, I’m old, I’m fit, and I hit a 2 iron longer and more accurately than any of the young bucks that I run across.

My superior physical condition allows me to play to 2 index that at times hovers to 4.

The only downside is all of the positive attention I receive from many of the women—and men—at the pools of the multiple country clubs at which I’m a member. I now have to wear a robe as much as possible when I’m not in the pool. If I don’t, there’s often bedlam.

Fortunately, my devoted wife finds it amusing—especially when other men ogle me.

Pepper, welcome to the thread. Lol.
