As a dude who is in his 30s, with 3 kids under 10 and one being a month old, I can attest to the accuracy of this statement.

Right there with you.  I haven't swung a club in two months.  They are in the truck but between working late, working a day of the weekend here lately, and swim meets I am not even getting the yard mowed much less finding time to play golf.  Fall soccer is getting ready to fire back up too.  Not sure when we will even have time for a vacation.

Regarding the old dudes, I used to play in a work league for a few years.  One of the better players was a guy that they brought back out of retirement to run a dept.  He would just fairway and green you to death.  220-240 right in the middle.  Shot to the green or near the green.  Birdie every now and then, never three putted and got up and down if he missed.  Constantly shooting 35-38 no matter what.

Played 18 after work and shot 84. After 8 hours of work, I thought this was pretty good. I work in a non a/c hangar crawling around on helicopters at Ft. Campbell, Ky. I really don't know where I found the energy to play 18 after work. I will sleep very good tonight. I am trying out new irons, the G 425, and trying to get used to them.

Where'd you play over there?

I played at Western Hills in Hopkinsville, Ky. The people there are very nice, and the cost is great. There is a mental institute next door if the game falls apart. Great service there too!

Western State.  I think some folks from my family graduated from there.

About the time I had a plan to go play that links style course over there it closed.

You ever played Arrowhead there outside Cadiz?

I personally believe that at club amateur level distance doesn't provide the level of advantage that you see at tour or top amateur ranks.  You go to any course on an Saturday afternoon and you get quickly the level of golf people play.  So you see a guy in their 60's that can shoot around 80 and has played all their life and this is the kind of club golfer that is at the top of the pyramid, right below the Club champion and the handful of kids that play for the Big Cup.

I was beat in a club event a few years back by a guy who was over 80 and shot better than his age for the round (which he routinely does).  Hybrid or wood into every green, missed most of them short, but got up and down from everywhere and could putt like a champ.  I was 100yds longer than him off the tee but he was so much more consistent and just never in trouble and never duffed a shot.  I was feast or famine... I actually eagled a hole that round, but I also got my fair share of doubles as well... meanwhile he just parred me into submission.

I have played nearly every course around here, including Arrowhead.

Did you get a chance to get to Novadell before it closed or has it opened back up?  That was the one course I wanted to get out on but didn't.  I stopped in at Arrowhead on my way back from the lake one day and picked up a scorecard.  It was 95* and I was spent from being on the lake all night so I didn't play.

Played against those youngins, and they got their revenge at a Church golf scramble. My team shot 5 under and they shot 12 under. We joined two others, one had not played in three years, and the other never played before. So basically me and my regular partner carried the team. The one guy could putt though, so he carried his weight. I was upset because they did not choose me, but I still had a blast. Beautiful day for golf.

Old man golf is real, hit fairways, get on or around the green and no more than two putt. It is tough on the ego to be 30-50 yards back (from the same tees) but patience pays off on the score card.

Had fun today at Cole Park on Ft. Campbell. I had a flyer 7 wood out of the rough that went 194, unreal.  When I measured ti I was really surprised. I usually go 160 to 170 with it. What a beautiful day today was as a nice breeze really helps. Shot 42 and 45, so a decent score for me. The three doubles really hurt. The people I played with struggled with their games, as I just joined whoever.  Now that I am somewhat retired, I should be able to play more if the body cooperates.
