I'm done with cart path only

My local course has been CPO for a week now due to a serious abundance of rain.  I have walked my last four rounds there and am done with powered carts.  One of the riders I got paired with today commented I was walking less than him.  I just nodded and kept on hoofing.

Several comments refer to courses not allowing walkers. This is unheard of to me (western Oregon). I guess I get their rationale, but I don't buy it. I'd have to be life-threateningly golf deprived and desparate to play CPO if I wasn't allowed to walk instead.

Theres quite a few courses here in Arizona that youd have to be crazy to walk. Wickenburg and Dinosaur Mountain come to mind. But even some of the regular munis are built into housing complexes and have significant distances between holes. Certainly walkable, but we're talking an extra par 3 between holes.

I get "tough to walk." There are quite a few of those where I am too. But I was under the impression that there are courses that require players to use carts and do not allow walking at all, tough/ill-advised/or otherwise. That seems crazy to me.

The mandatory ride courses locally that I'm familiar with, both include the cart in the fee.  I'm a dedicated,  and fast,  walker but I'd be holding up play walking these places.  There are some very long rides between holes.

This is where you hop on the back for the quick shuttle to the next tee, no?

Cart path only is the worst. It’s not golf….or I suppose it is, but it’s not for me. If it is CPO, I will walk. If I’m physically unable to walk the course, or worse, not allowed to walk, then I will play somewhere else. If somewhere else is not available, I’ll hit the putting green for a couple hours and then find something else to do.

No problems here. I walk whenever I can. Though at 65 I've gone from carry to pushcart. Walking is part of golf ... has been for what, like two or three centuries?. Except on courses that require me to ride. But I'd much rather be required to walk than forbidden to walk.

And, just sayin', I have some friends that own courses. Depending on the location, after two or three days of heavy rain, carts can damage fairways in one day in a way that takes literally two or three weeks to heal.

Pulled the Clicgear out of the closet for 2023 because carry was slowly hurting my lower back.  Two rounds in for 2023 and much better after finishing.

A group I play with has a shambles about once a month in season. We have three or four foursomes per time. We have an understanding with course management that if it's cartpath only, we don't have to play.

The course is scenic and hilly, but the CPO causes problems. In one four-hole stretch, the actual cart path is along a ridge some 20 feet above the fairway. If you pull your drive left along this stretch, you have to: climb down a hillside... run across to your ball... hit it... and retrace your steps. It can be a 100-yard dash each way while carrying a couple of clubs.

If it's August and 95% humidity and 95°F (or 35°C), this can be a real workout. 😬

Yeah cart path only is a quick way to ad 5 to 10 strokes on a bad day. Hit a drive... park cart as equal as possible with ball.. hope distance is correct with finder... take club.. wait for shot into green because ppl ahead of you are either overly slow or not.. hopefully not... get hit unto or feel pressured from group behind you because course didnt know how to set tee times off... shank your 6 iron shot that you almost couldnt find anyway... repeat.

Its fine to pay a cheap rate for that kinda golf but when its expensive??

Simple solution!  Walk.  You’ll actually save steps and time.  I generally wait for the cart crews to do their thing.

We generally just skip CPO days, as they're pretty rare.

When we do play and it's CPO, though inconvenient, it's not that bad....just take couple clubs with you when walking to your ball and your rangefinder.

We make it more interesting, as long drive in fairway closest to the cart path wins a 'skin'

I never have a good round with cart path only.  Might as well walk if you are going to play and if the course doesn't allowing walking I'm not playing.  I love the game, but I sure the hell don't if it's cart path only.

Pretty much my opinion about cart golf in general.....paths or not.  If I can't walk and carry, I don't play.
