New gap wedge - stick with vokey or not?

Looks like my SM6 52 needs to hit the backup bag/garage so I am in the market for a replacement.

 

My 52 is probably the club I hit most in the bag - mostly 80-100% swings from firm links turf. Have been using an SM6 52 8F for (too) many years.

 

Looking at reviews of all the new offerings mostly they focus on 'shorter' shots than I hit with with my GW - not a lot out there on full swing performance.

 

Its the easy call to replace like for like and just pick up an SM8 or go for something else -

 

MG3 - wasnt a fan online but looked at one in the flesh and thought it set up nicely

T22 - look great but are pricey

 

Any advice on wedges that you hit more full shots with than pitches/chips?

If you are hitting more full shots and don’t have the need for versatility for that wedge, why not match your iron set?  Then use your higher lofted wedges for green side/bunker duty?

What are your current irons?

Current irons are MP59s - so keeping it mizuno kind of makes sense.

 

For a long time I used 52 everywhere but have started using higher lofted wedges more - so yeah keeping the GW as a 11 iron as opposed to wedge 1.

Don't overlook the Tm MG3's

Every so often I'll try to kick the tires on something that isn't a Vokey.  Nothing has kicked them out of the bag in over 20 years.  Not saying don't go looking, but don't be surprised if you end up feeling like you're chasing a ghost.

I use a forged cavity back gap wedge and love it. The additional forgiveness over my previous blade style GW is huge for approach shots between SW and PW distance.

If you have a good track record with Vokey, stick with SM family.

switched to mizuno wedges from vokey and havent looked back. Worth the price imo

Why change a good thing?  Just get the SM8 version.
