Moving on from Miura CB 57s

I didn't get to play as much golf last year as I was hoping, so my handicap and mishits have increased more than I would have liked. I am going to be moving to something different, but I do not want to sacrifice the "look" of a player's iron. I would like to see a little more forgiveness on the slight mishits. I plan on doing a fitting in a few weeks, but what should be on the top of my list to try?

Given the look and size of the 57s I would say t100.

 

or you could shop BST for some tc201s

The answer is simple. Get your priority's in order and play more golf. Keep the 57's. All sorted.😁

For new irons, Srixon ZX7, Titleist T100s, Callaway Apex Pro should all give a little more forgiveness with a nice compact head. Each of these irons has a different construction and will feel different. There are others out there from Cobra and Mizuno but I haven’t hit them. 
 

Titleist 620 CB irons are great looking irons but I’m not sure they are any more forgiving than the CB 57s. 
 

oh yeah, I would recommend keeping your CB 57 irons. I sold my combo set of MB 001 and CB 57 irons and still miss them.

I moved from the CB-57 to the T100, pretty seamless transition and the titleist are definitely more forgiving

What's your budget like? I play proto concept and the 03's might be a nice set to look at. They aren't cheap but I can help you find some good deals on them. I play the 01's and think you'd like those, but some people get intimidated by MB's just based on the profile. Either the 01's or the 03's are worth trying since you are coming from Miura. zx7's would be the only main stream iron i'd recommend based on feel alone but the blade length might be a little long for you?

You'll be disappointed with all others if you've played the 57's, IMO ZX7 feel is a close second.

True but my Camaro ZL1 is bada**. 750HP is fun no matter what it is… lol

never drove a Ferrari or hit a Muira 57

Hmmmm..... I have never tried them before. That sounds like it could be a viable option for sure! Are they pretty easy to find?

Sets not coming from Japan are fewer in between, but they definitely come up often.

I waiver between a mixed set of the mg version of the CB-57, the CB-1007s (ICL-601 4 iron/utility, 5-9 CB-1007 and a Fourteen DJ-4 Pw) and a mixed ZX5/ZX7 set.

 

I like both, and they both feel amazing, but the feel is very different. To me (ymmv of course), the Srixons are noticeably more forgiving. Obviously it’s not a game improvement iron, but I don’t feel that I have to be as “on” as I do for the Miuras. 

 

They also however don’t have the addictingly solid Miura feel, but instead the buttery endo feel. And they are larger if that’s important to you.

 

I’m glad I’ve kept both, and imagine I’ll have both for quite some time.

Why yes indeed, although if everyone did that I could not have gotten my set of 1008's so easily a few years back. 😛

 

I believe there is at least one set of heads only on BST and some other builds. They do pop up more than you think. Few months back there was a bunch of 201's that went through as well.

 

I never gamed the 57s, just hit on a sim and I found the CB1008s a bit better in dispersion from that session. They seem more friendly then they should be but there is no help such as tungsten or other trick that other forged CB's used. Just looking at them side by side, I would not think they were that different so I defer to those who have seriously gamed both.
