I suspect that you could insert any name in this interview going back to OLD Tom Morris.

They all said the same thing.....every generation thinks the ball goes too far.....LOL!

And everyone of them would be right in the context of…the ball flies too far for the majority of golf courses already built.

We have the technology to make the game the best version of it’s self and to me this isn’t golf best version🤷🏼‍♂️

You know for repeatedly insisting you aren't milesgiles, you really should avoid using terminology he coined and only he has ever used to refer to modern drivers (toaster on a stick).

And I thought that I coined toaster on a stick...

None of them would be right.......we're still playing the same game they played 150 years ago.

Everyone plays the same course and the lowest score wins. That's why you can play golf on any size golf course...

Equating the game 150 years ago to now is the same as someone saying driving a car is the same between a model T and a Tesla…it’s not even close.

The object of the game was the same then as it is today 2022......get the ball in the hole in the fewest strokes. If you disagree with the object of the game then you're not playing GOLF.

You are right the competition is still the same..lowest score wins. The game has absolutely changed…so say it’s better some says it worse and that’s what we are discussing.

ZING!

Ford actually filed for bankrupcy twice, before the Ford Motor Company became something feasible.  One of the early companies became the Cadillac Motor Company.  And the final third succesful verion was funded by 12 investors, including John and Horace Dodge.

If you ever see a Model T and can talk to the driver ask them how they operate it.  It's complicated compared to a modern vehicle.

Yep, there are three pedals, and none of them are the gas pedal.  Right one is brake.  Middle one is for selecting reverse.  Left one is a clutch pedal that basically lets you choose between the two forward gears.  Throttle is on the steering wheel.

I spent a couple summers working for a family friend that restored Ts, and in fact, it was the first vehicle I ever drove at age 14.

They didn't have cars 150 years ago (1872), but they had the Open Championship.

First car was 1885 or 1886.

Now they have cars that can go 200 mph, but nowhere except a race track to drive them.  My car won't go over 120 or so, but I'd be a fool to drive that fast.

we arent allowed to debate the balance of skills needed to score well, and we arent allowed to speculate on what the viewer might find entertaining to watch.

that about right?

The balance of skills needed to score well, are displayed by the ones who score well and win tournaments. It's like free market capitalism in that sense.

Now your second point, what you find interesting to watch, and what I find interesting to watch, sure that's debatable and is honestly the entire point of this thread. The game doesn't need anything. As @Titleist99 said, the point of the game remains the same, to play your round in as few strokes as possible. The rollbackers just think the game needs rules to keep the game entertaining to them, and the non-rollbackers don't. It's as simple as that. Either way golf will survive without us.

TRUTH!

For the umpteenth time, no one is trying to change the object of the game. This statement is next to meaningless.

Perfect explanation imo.

It isn't meaningless, that basic object of the game makes all arguments about how it should be played meaningless and thus means that changing the game is a needless, subjective thing given the objective definition of the game.

I feel no obligation to nor have any interest in "growing the game".  Especially if that means changing the game from what we have today.  I would rather the game we have go extinct than to change it so that it appeals to the masses with things like "six-hole courses", or "pitch and putt courses", etc.

The degree of "dumbing down", not just in golf but every facet of life, is sickening.

I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense. There are plenty of rules about how it should be played.

I want to grow the game, I think we should increase the size of the hole. Same object right?
