G425 max vs rouge st max. Battle of the forgiving drivers

Recommended Posts

I hit some little cuts with the Rogue ST Max 9 (at 😎 this afternoon on the range. I like it. I hit cuts with the G425 but the Rogue seems easier to hit a little cut that gets more distance than height for me.

Will update. But the Rogue was impressive cutting the ball.

Well it was a battle royal!   When the dust settled,  I hit rouge max on average 4 yards further,  but the ping I hit 15 drives in a row that were identical ( not identical into the trees)

rogue wins on sound but I am not really turned off by the sound of ping.

feel I actually like the ping better.   I feel like the face has more feed back as opposed to the dull feeling of the rogue

It's weird, I don't mind the sound of the Ping when  I hit it outside with a premium ball but I can't stand the sound when someone else uses one.

I was at the range a couple weeks ago and the guy to the left of me took out his G425 Max and started hitting range rocks. Then the guy to the right started hitting his; I had to move to the chipping green.

lol I totally know what you mean!   When I am hitting it, not bad.   Somebody else, worse sounding club ever….well Nike sumo was also bad

Dull? Don't you mean pleasing? lol.

Ping?  Don't you mean deafening?  Hitting it on the range is cringing, especially when someone else is hitting it on the range. On the course, hitting 12-14X a round is okay. Displeasing, abhorrent but not SQ2.

If the best you can say is that it's not a Nike SQ2, you've got a problem.

I own a Rogue and a G425 and hope Rogue wins the battle

I hit them again, and this time the performance was identical.   It also comes down to the flat setting for me.  It just takes out the draw.

Whats the problem? Is it just loud?

I also dont care too much about sound of a driver because it doesnt impact results. I hit the Nike Vapor driver with more consistency than any other driver I have used and that thing sounds like your hitting concrete with a bag of bricks.

Also, if the 425 and Rogue perform the same, I would lean towards the G425 just because of the turbulators on top. It is such a good visual aid when addressing your ball that is much better than a little chevron. At least IMO.

Both really great drivers IMHO. PING sound did not bother me but my playing partners hated it.

My problem with the PING G425 MAX was I never got consistent with it in the year I played it. I tried 4 or 5 shafts and different weight set ups, but could never tame that wild beast. I hit some bombs with it, but I also hit a lot of hooks. The high toe miss was bad for me sometimes hooking off the planet.  I could never get comfortable lining up the G425, I think it was the weird shape and too much bulge and roll (face curvature).

Callaway Rogue ST MAX wins for me. A more rounded shape with flatter face (less bulge and roll) makes it easier for me to line up. No Tubulators, just a clean look at address works better for me.  The Rogue is just as forgiving as the G425 but with better feel and sound. The Rogue also gets me better numbers on the sim, a couple more mph in ball speed and higher smash factor, but more importantly I hit it straighter and longer on the course.

The Rogue is not remotely dull, it is a normal volume. Rogue ST Max LS is like the best sounding driver I’ve hit. Preferred it on feel by a wide margin over the Stealth. Pings perform great but I returned a 425LST specifically due to it sounding like banging a trash can lid. It performs but it is clangy. Really, the new Callaway is like a Ping in forgiveness with way better sound and feel. If the OP is hitting a Callaway Rogue offline, it’s not the club.

I always liked Ping drivers but the G400 was the last one I liked the sound of. They need to do something about it. Tour players get theirs hotmelted. Maybe Ping should start doing that in the factory.

I agree - the Rogue ST Max line sounds excellent.

But I am sending it back. I was more consistent with the Ping G425 Max in terms of ball speed and straight. It was not the Ping Killer for me that I thought it might be. For me, Ping is still King despite the sound, which doesn't bother me when hitting it. When someone else is hitting it, that's a different story. lol.

I also played the G400 445cc and it was a good sounding driver, better than G400 max or 410, 425. It also performed. I may take the Rogue out one more time before shipping it just to make certain.

My miss is the dreaded HIGH block and the Rogue for now has taken care of that. IMO looks way better, sound (eh hotmelt takes care of it for Ping). Dispersion the same but higher BS with Rogue as well.

I’m in the process of comparing these 2 now. Been playing the 425 since it came out and the G400 max before that. I haven’t been on the course yet, but the range sessions have been promising. Even crappy range balls feel good coming off the face. It reminds me of the feel of the OG M2. Looking forward to trying it on the course.

My sentiments exactly

My 425 lst was hot melted as well but it truly under performed with my swing. Sound was better than stock, still not great. Eventually I traded it for a SIM 2, blew the Ping away. Also for some unknown reason, the Ping was also a hook machine… personally I was disappointed my 425 lst did not pan out having liked the hype & had expected it to be better than my 410 lst. Oh well.

Now, my Rogue ST Max LS has the performance of what the 425 lst should have HAD - length & forgiveness but with much, much, better sound. That’s my experience…

I will say, for me, the Ping G LS was the last Ping that was silly long & great sounding.

Does the Rogue launch really high for anyone else? I took mine to the course today for the first time and really liked it but was launching higher than my G425 or even my previous G400 max. I turned it to -1 setting and it flattened out quite a bit but I was not expecting it to launch as high as it was.
