Proof he's back to S-X?

Yes that's beyond safe to say-its a fact... Mallets, especially the spider are among the highest Moi Putters in the game. that's why PGA pro's & good golfers who struggle with their putting and can't play a true Anser style putter anymore as well, will go to the spider/mallet. Rory won quite a few Majors with the Newport if you'll recall. That was literally Rory's reason in an interview several years back for switching from newport to Spider/X.. besides the MOI, Rory basically said with the Newport putter I have to be a much better Putter and all my Strokes need to be perfect whereas the spider X allows me much more for error.. almost verbatim Rory said I have to be on point every day with the Newport whereas the spider gives me the forgiveness I need nowdays.

Cite your source that Rory is back with the Spider X Hydro?

Honestly he putted much better with the Spider x hydro. Rory and the spider X Hydro just kind of go together now imo, yep! He's more comfortable with it. That's probably because he's been playing it for many seasons now. Hell, he only went back to the Newport for 2 tournaments so... maybe that's all he felt he needed but for a fair test he should have stuck with The newport for at least a season as I recall many tournaments Rory putted horribly with the spider x too...

Because it's cool.

Lol as much as I like the utility of the Spider X, it's not a cool putter.

Cool putters are blade putters like Tigers.

Haha, I have a scotty newport, custom stamping. Its so cool. BUT... the spider swings itself, and to each their own, I think it looks great 🙂

Fair enough, but I agree 100% on the putter swinging itself. After using the Spider X, it literally makes no sense for me to go back to my Newport, unless I don't care about my score.

Looking for some Rory magic.  Let’s go!!

Edit: had this out on the practice green.  The stepped shaft feels firm.  The slant neck swings a bit more naturally than the flow neck for me.  Will test on course Saturday.   Glad TM brought some of these to the states.

I see like Rory you're also sporting a little nick on the leading edge on the white alignment 😄

And wow, the flow neck looks so ugly next to the short slant.

Yep.  Unwrapped the plastic and paint blemish.  Anyways I’m ocd with putters so I already touched it up.  Totally mint and ready to make birdie putts on Saturday 😉

Saw a couple of these in 35” at a local store the other day. Might pick one up, just because they have been somewhat rare. Even though now they are on the TM website, who knows how long supply will last.

Feedback from anyone who has switched from the flow to short slant? I don't particularly need to switch from the flow but have been thinking about it. Thanks

I have. I played a Spider X SS for while and switched to the Flow Neck and noticed my putting improved due to less toe hang. 30* to 21* in the X SS to Flow Neck. However I did switch back to the short slant but this time in the GTX and absolutely love it. Keep in mind though the SS in the GTX is only 18*, so less toe hang than the X with the flow neck. My stroke isn't straight back and through enough to go to a face balanced so the minimal toe hang thr GTX SS has is perfect.

The one I got today that’s a slant neck has a stepped shaft. I think it has the KBS shaft in it but it’s not the same as the one in my MyTP Juno.

It’s labeled as the CT Tour Putter Shaft but the Spider X slant neck is stepped and my MyTP Juno is not stepped. I’d like to dive into some more background.

Maybe the stepped version is something TM and KBS collaborated on for their lines specifically.

I’d like to know more too.  It feels slightly different than the stepless CT 120 on my flow neck.  That could be another factor though.

I’d say Rors is doing pretty well with his Spider X Hydroblast slant neck through two rounds.  Leading the field.  Well done so far Rors

Yep...He sure is putting the ball confidently in the RBC this week isn't eh? He was on Golf Channel's Golf Central highlights all day Thursday with the way he was putting, it saved his round.

Rory is putting this week with the confidence where he's trying to make everything.. Sending putts four feet past the hole knowing he's making the comeback.. we'll see how long that confidence lasts.

I didn't yet know he's #1 this week in putting stats, it doesn't surprise me though- see what happens this weekend, but he's not driving the ball well enough to win ironically. Highlights showed how much he was missing the Fairway (T61st Driving Accuracy). It's hard to take advantage of par 5's if you can't find the Fairway.

I think we all are pulling for Rory though! Yep, was impossible not to notice Rory on Thursday making 5 ft putts center cut with the confidence of 10 ft pace😀

I'd like to know why all of the sudden there's a stepped CT Tour Putter Shaft coming on Our USA Spider X Hydro blast short slant #3 hosels.

I'm definitely in the camp who prefer the Aesthetics of stepless. Though I primarily play a Classic Cameron, Cameron Newport 2 Studio Stainless or JT/Homa Phantom X5.5, I've always been close with the DJ spider tour black & spider X and still have one in my backup bag.

Curious, if all TM USA is going to have inventory of is the darn stepped, is anyone making that work- any difference in feel? If it's just aesthetics I could get over that perhaps.

I'm beginning to think I might as well grab one before TaylorMade stupidly stops selling the X claiming: "We no longer produce Spider X Inventory" even though their star player is currently on TV leading this tournament in putting stats.

I put the slant with stepped in the bag.  Will let you know how it goes with feel and performance over multiple rounds.  Would be nice to know if it’s a KBS shaft or in house.

My GT Max has a black stepped KBS shaft in it. All I know is that I liked the stepped one in my X and this feels similar to it. I have my weights set to 2 which make it perform like the X.

My stats got better compared to when I was using a Newport a month ago for a brief stint. Arccos has me at +0.8 SG putting this round and -0.7 the one before compared to a 4HC. I’m at a 4.4 now.

Brother SoCal, Let us know on the stepped performance.. I suspect stepped will be just fine if one can get over it's initial appearance. And making putts will help do that quickly, eh?

To get to the bottom of the KBS stepped shafts- one of y'all needs to call KBS, my hydroblast still has the number nine hosel and a stepless.

The shaft manufacturers are always informative and extremely knowledgeable versus anytime I've called Taylor Made it's been some lady/ clueless phone answerer who doesn't know a mallet from a blade, graphite from Steel, and basically just reads off a script. 1 call or email to KBS whether the stepped/CT Tour is some KBS collaboration for TaylorMade only/ in-house or whatever, is likely all it'll take to find out.

I'm sure Chris Trottie would know also, good luck getting a hold of him. 😉

For those who are interested, this is my current set-up with the Spider putter.

BGT stability shaft + 12g weights.

Needless to say the stability (no pun intended) is literally off the charts!
