Bandon to OTH Question

My awesome wife just gave me a Bandon trip as a gift. It will be my first visit 6/30 to 7/2. 
 

I have an 8:20 am Sheep Ranch tee time on Sat 6/2. Is it realistic to make a 2 pm flight out of OTH?  Odds of a sub 4 hr round?

Going to be very close on that flight, if the round is quick you should just barely be able to sneak on before gates close

IMO, you have virtually zero chance of making it.

When checking in I’d talk to the front desk and let them know about your flight. They might be able to help you out with an earlier tee time or switching it to another course on property. Could even try calling them ahead of time.

Was there a few weeks ago and it seems like all the rounds were slower than in years past, place was packed.  Morning rounds were 4.5 hours and afternoons were pushing 5.

Add me to the "no chance" crowd. Definitely try to get an earlier time. If you are a single there's a pretty good chance you can get on earlier.

Play 12 holes at Sheep Ranch and then head to the airport (if you have not played it before hole 12 green is right at the club house.) 18 holes and catching your flight seems super unlikely.

I don't want to be the one guy giving you hope, but what are the travel arrangements? If you have a rental it's about a 30-40 minute drive to the airport. If you have to catch a ride with a taxi or shuttle usually they won't cut it that close, but if you've got a rental there's more of a chance. The airport is small and that's the only flight going out, so you'll have short lines and a quick trip through security, not the long waits you're accustomed to elsewhere. If you're comfortable risking it and cutting it close, that's up to you.

 

Beyond that, the flight into NB is often behind schedule. You could always keep an eye on the status of that flight (and that plane's flights before that leg) and make a decision on the fly as to whether to cut it short or not.

I'm beyond excited.  1) I'm going to see if I can move up the Sat tee time.  2) I'm also considering renting a car.  The shuttle looks like $150 round trip, I have a rental car quote for $200.

Personally, I would not want to feel rushed on a once in a lifetime (for most) trip like that.

On my last trip in Feb, part of my group took the shuttle. Shuttle definitely errs on the side of caution with their times, I think they departed around 11:30, and they had a pretty long wait at the airport from what they're telling me, more than enough time. Personally if you get a rental, as long as you're keeping an eye on the time and are off the course by 12:30 you should be ok. Rental shouldn't be necessary otherwise as everything you need is on property, much like Sand Valley, but could be useful should you want to get a meal or snacks/supplies in Bandon or take a ride to see the beach, etc.

 

But I would also do everything possible to find an earlier time. Saturday isn't a big departure day for most so there shouldn't be as much of a rush to the front of the tee sheet as on Sunday. But then again some might be looking for an early start to play 36 or more.
