I like Martins content, but wow— a 30 minute ad pitch for this new “technique”. Sheesh….

effective  "marketing" ?  I would bet that a number of folks will look it up out of curiosity and a number of them will be converts

Performance Golf Zone  (PGZ) was not created by Martin Chuck, but he is interviewed and featured in some of the videos.

I posted a thread a couple years ago about what a deceptive model the Performance Golf Zone pitch turns out to be. I'd stay away.

The most recent Martin Chuck video tease was just ripping off some of the more recent @MonteScheinblumideas.

thats what I thought as well. I’m sure he is making a killing at $350 an hour plus training aids etc. Very odd move…definitely first time I’ve felt he comes off as a snake oil salesman

Ripping off Monte? Please.... Monte is excellent, but he didn't this stuff. May the best conveyors of information rise above. Monte is certainly one of them.

There's nothing new under the sun, that's for sure, but Monte started talking about the "first cast" at least a year ago. The last Martin Chuck teaser video was teasing the same move with the same name. Just seemed derivative to me.

My real beef with the Performance Golf Zone is the bait and switch aspect. They will tease a video that is from their premium content level to entice you to buy their standard level of access. Only after you're behind the paywall do you realize that the teased content is on the next paid tier higher. Very sketch.

They roped me in that way and I quickly took advantage of their refund policy (though not without some pushback from PGZ which I didn't appreciate).

It's not on the up and up.

You're right, "there's nothing new under the  sun". They all rip off each other.

Funny, I didn't see it that way at all.  Long time ago, bought some series, can't remember...it was short, cheap, like $20.  All it got me on the site was that specific content, one time cost, no monthly.  Sure, they try to upsell other content, but there was no obligation.  Now what it does have is a "scratch club" at $10/mo and to my knowledge it is the only place you will find a complete series of short game videos from James Sieckmann.  At $10, that's a bargain.  Watch, then cancel.

The website is fine, looks like a lot of other golf instructor websites.  The one thing that is inexcusable in this day/age is you cannot check on your profile what you subscribed to and how much you are paying; and you cannot cancel at push of a button.  That part is shady.

Marketing on the internet is not cheap.  So if nothing else, Martin is getting his name out more as PGZ is helping him achieve some scale.  A golf instructor has a finite set of skills and limited reach, so any passive income stream that they can make is smart business.  For some of you to call it snake oil, or ripoff, or some other ridiculous like he has enough money from training aids, is really ignorant.  If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I do not know Martin, but I do know many instructors who respect him and if Martin is maximizing his income while following his passion; then good for him.

That's fine. My personal experience was different.

When I jumped on they were using a different video to promote the membership. I joined, and when I went to access that content, they were like "Oh, is THAT what you wanted? Sorry, that costs an extra $69" or whatever.

To me, if you use specific content to sell a specific service, and that specific content IS NOT included in that specific service, you're pulling a bait and switch.

They definitely are not making it as easy as it could be.  And I can see how they make so many offers at once, it is ripe for a bait/switch.

  • 1 year later...

I'm glad I found this thread. I got a link to this in my email and started watching it..but wanted to see some real world experiences.

Performance Golf loves the infomercial. The video doesn't have a time indicator on it, so you don't realize until a couple of minutes in that it's going to be LONG informercial.

I'd bought one reasonably priced item off Performance Golf from an instructor I like. The content was worth the cost. But the PG model is overbearing. They sign you up for their 'Scratch Club' at a recurring fee and spam you with other content.  I got out of Scratch Club immediately and am playing whack a mole with their other email content.

The 'club over the head' emails of 'quick fix aids' and programs cheapens the value of having some really good instructors with good content.
