Scottsdale Dec 30-31, Jan 1 Golf Recommendations near Biltmore

Staying at the Arizona Biltmore. Looking for best round near Biltmore. Anyone played the Adobe or Links Courses at the Biltmore. Figured I'd play one on site then venture out.

Both are very mediocre golf courses and won't get much love on here.  If I had to choose, I would pick Links over Adobe, but I would take the short drive to Papago or Camelback 10/10 times.

You will be incredibly disappointed if you play either - especially at the price they are asking now!

Grayhawk- Raptor or Talon

TPC Scottsdale. Stadium Course is being set up for the WM Phoenix Open and should be pretty close to complete by the time you are here. 16 is almost completely enclosed right now. (Attached pic is looking down 18 last week) Champions course also good. 
Also worth playing.

Raptor is championship style and Talon is more country club style.  You can’t go wrong with either.

Biltmore tracks are not good. The Phoenix Muni's are better. You have some good suggestions! They won't be cheap though!

If you've never been, TPC is fun especially if they already have some or most of the grandstands put up. It's not the best course in the area, but the atmosphere is cool, the conditioning is great, and you'll have fun watching the WM later on and remembering how you played each hole.

 

MUNIGRIT has a good point here. I don't know if this matters to you at all, but that time of year most decent courses are going to be well over $200 (some getting into the $300's) for a green fee.

Actually it's over $500!  But you do save $26 because it's cart path only I guess!!!

It is a holiday weekend after all 😉. Not that this is cheap, but the price anytime other than New Year's weekend is $340.

Actually, It will be more expensive in Jan.  $340 is the current price.  In AZ, prices go up a few times starting with overseed.  It will be over $500 through when they close it for the WM.

Dynamic pricing and courses figuring out they could charge whatever they wanted in peak season has really killed the fun for local golfers.  I used to play TPC stadium once a year during peak season just for the fun of watching the pros play it later.  At 500 plus a pop (and I am not usually cost averse) it is just silly...a clown show....over 2K a foursome???.  Anyone think this comes back to planet earth in the next couple of years?

Unfortunately, not as long as people keep paying it. I mean from a business standpoint why would you lower the price of something that has no problem selling?

 

FWIW I played Stadium last year during the off season in AZ (June to be specific), and we only payed around $150 (might have been even less) for a morning tee time on a weekday.

Tpc used to have a deal in the summer that was 36 holes and lunch for like $99, puts it into perspective.

 

The lack of resident breaks have really been making it hard to be an avid golfer. Papago never has any city card times, and I guess I should’ve kept my mouth shut about aguila because it’s so hard to find times lol

Yes you should have!! 🤣  All of you should have!   Imagine if not a word was said!!  

 

Everyone in AZ should make a pact, right here, right now - to never utter the name again - make it as if it does not even exist!!  And tout Ken McDonald as the end all be all moving forward! 🙂
