Thursday was my 34th round of the year and it was the round where it finally happened. I got Ryan in our weekly group at CCA. I had been trying since March to get him out there but our schedules just wouldn't jive. R had not played the course since last fall. 

 

It was more of the same perfect spring weather for my third day in a row of golf.

73* Partly Cloudy skies with low humidity and a breeze.

 

The front 9 went like this..... Par bogey par double par bogey bogey double par.

7 over 43 at the turn. I was overdue for a round with zero consistency and the inability to right the ship. Unfortunately my iron game was quite off on Thursday and it cost me. Other parts of my game too were not very sharp. I made a triple and two doubles. There were no eagles or birdies.

I shot an 83.

 

During Thursday's round Ryan once again smoked another Driver off the Deck that was quite impressive. 💥  From 285 out on 16 with his Titleist driver (and this was after his monster drive on the par 5 from the tips) he nailed it to the front of the green and just missed his 30 foot eagle putt by 3 inches. What a pair of stellar shots back to back to witness !

I told R that any time that we are playing together and I see him pull driver for a shot from the fairway he can count on me grabbing my phone a snagging a video of the attempt.  😁  That flushed sound is just so pure. 

 

It was a quite enjoyable three days of golf in a row this week for me.

 

Equipment Update:  I hit my fairly new to the bag 11 wood well, and I can report that my new SS putter grip has definitely passed the test in its' first week.

I have been to NorCal twice and on both visits I witnessed that locals knew just how to casually dine in style with delicious food and wine outdoors with beautiful surroundings.

You all know how it's done sir !  ⚡

 

 

 

You’re welcome sir! My wife and I have been going to the Monterey Peninsula for ~ 34 years and there’s a lot of great places to stay depending on what you like. There's so many excellent restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula and I think that we've eaten at more than 60 of them.

That's probably #10.  That has the water right next to the tees and "creek" that crosses in front of the forward tees.  One of my buddies skulled his tee ball that ricocheted off one of the small boulders which imparted the most wicked spin on the ball.  Unfortunately, it "spun" into the creek.

As previously mentioned, we were at the Oasis GC today.  Quite bit more straightforward than Wolf Creek, though were still some quite elevated tees, especially on the 2 par 5's on the front - #5 and #8.

 

The course was in much better overall condition than Wolf Creek.  The greens ran very true but not as fast as Wolf Creek.  There were a few greens that had new sod on an edge and were marked as GUR.  

 

The pace of play was MUCH better which made the temperature seem much more bearable even though it was the same as yesterday.  It did get a bit breezy - around 10-15 mph - on the last 2 holes.  We finished in about 4:15.  

 

I played much better overall.  I lost only one ball when I tried to go for a par 5 in two and hit an extremely rare fade which went deep into a penalty area (pond).  I opened with birdie and was +3 at the turn, put my tee shot on #10 in the middle of the fairway, 80 yds from the pin but took 6 strokes from there for a triple.  Thankfully, I didn't get too frustrated like I normally would.

 

Finished with an 81 (38-43) with 32 putts.  I freely admit that I allowed myself free relief when one of my shots came to rest about 3 feet from a dead rat in the middle of a fairway.

My recovery from last years health issues is progressing well. Yesterday’s round (number 61 for the year) was seven days in a row walking. The legs have recovered nicely but the upper body still has a ways to go. I am still around two clubs weaker than the same time last year but have adapted my game to the new reality. In my “modern” bag, I have added a five hybrid which has been a nice addition.

 

@imkirby34, I think that dead rat relief was a reasonable thing to do 😀.

Amen to that. There is a thread out there about the best driver setup for driver off the deck….the best driver off the deck for 99% of golfers is don’t damn hit driver off the deck! 🤣

Wormy ambrosia soft maple for the stretchers or cherry?  Tapered cherry legs, large bevel on underside of table top.  

 

I think they will work together.

I think they will work together.  

For stretchers or aprons, I would go with the cherry, the maple is great, but in my opinion would get lost.  If it was a drawer front, heck yeah.

Here's where I was Friday afternoon...18th hole, 85 yards to a back right pin with only 2 yards to the stands...65 front but slopes right and front to back...nice easy PW should do the trick...

So I was showing Ryan's video (and bragging on him) to a few members this morning who were on the practice putting green with Ryan working on their putting. One of the members asked R a few questions. He asked how long he had been good at D off the D shots? Ryan replied that he never hit the shot in high school but when he started playing in college he ran into quite a few long holes that he hadn't faced in HS so he started practicing the shot. He said by the end of his freshman year he was fairly consistent pulling the shot off in competition. One other member asked if there was any special set up that he used for the shot. Ryan's answer was two part. First he said he only counts on hitting fades when hitting driver off the deck. He told us that if he tries to draw one he only gets 70 yard snuffed hooks. Second he said that the only set up difference is that he opens his hips a bit for the shot to help put a cut swing on it.

Ryan is a really solid player. Currently he is a +2. He bombs it off the tee with either his driver, 3 wood, or 2 iron. I am glad that I get to play with him from time to time.

I was in the fairway walkway at the Korn Ferry Tour event at Raleigh Country Club.  I was only imagining what I need if I ever had the chance to play there...

Pineapple Express, Atmospheric River here.  No golf today, nor BBQ.  Though I'm tempted to try that look, have some friends over in suits.  BBQ in the rain.  Drinks in everyone's hands.

... Just hangin' on. Came down with a nasty bug Friday early morning and every orifice joined the party. 🤮  Starting to feel like a human again today. Only played once in the last 9 days. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow or Tuesday.

Back, and they were good.  This first video was the second song of the first night.  This is from the Mrs.  She had to stop and sit down bc it was pretty crazy.

 

Glad we went.  Some of the graphics were repeats but I was still happy to go all three nights.  I was really impressed with Bobby’s vocals, and drums>space with the vibrating seats was wild.

 

Mayer and Chimenti killed it, but of course they can’t do that without Jay Lane and Oteil being so, so solid.

 

No other secrets just in case someone drives down the street to see them or perhaps fly from Steeltown.  It’s worth it.  The Sphere continued to impress.

Holding down the couch like the last week plus!  At least the swelling is going down and the infection is being treated.  3 things I have learned

 

1) I hate sitting around

2) walking boots suck

3) I am missing golf

Clamps off, cleaned up glue/stains quick (I should get my 53" widebelt sander wired up...) and hit it with some spirits.  More flame than I thought.  Going to age beautifully.
