I forgot how much I hate painting exterior millwork. 2 coats of primer (all 6 sides), scuff, 2 coats of paint

Got scaffolding moved at home, put up 8 courses of siding.  So much work by yourself. So much done, so much left to do.

How I removed the old porch. 😆

Had 6 gallons of paint matched and made.

Still need to button up a forklift to deliver tonight for a 3rd shift.

It's too hot to golf.

Nice lil Labor Day BBQ completed! And the rare occasion of an actual guest - Hoss' wife is working today (she's an ER nurse) so he rolled up and we all had a nice time on the patio. 16 hour smoked pork shoulder and hushpuppies and some Jack and Cokes.

Good times.

The most important part of this is they are gone early.  It can be fantastic fun, but early is always better.

So my little college band at NCSU ... we were largely in the genre of the Chapel Hill "indie" scene at the time; the likes of which gave us the incredible Archers of Loaf. Before I was fired from "The Technician," I was doing a hell of a job covering that scene and writing about it. Scored an interview with Ben Folds; which was rad. Never really really cared for his music but he was an amazing fella to talk to.

Anyway. The rhythm guitar player started picking up keyboard. So we'd jam on this song that was a hit at the time ...

RIP Steve. Smash Mouth got a lot of ish over the years but they wrote some damn good songs.

I got to play yesterday-- I did not play the league/small money game. I ended up in a little match with a couple of guys one of them being one of the original power team. $10 a man Nassau. The one catch was I could not play from my customary Super Senior tees. They wanted me to play the mid tees with them which is a stretch for me from my usual 5120 to 6167 at sea level. I figured I could beat at least 2 of them because I can hit the ball straighter and keep it in play. And from back there I can not hit it far enough off the tee to get into too much trouble. LOL did not push the issue. Hit quite a few 5 woods into Par 4s and 2 of the Par 5s no way I could reach in regulation. I played position golf and the short irons wedges and broomstick was hot. The 2 Par 5s I could not reach I laid up to my distance and wedged it close and got Par. The other 2 it was Driver 5 wood 9 wood. One of the guys pulled out after 9 and the other 2 said they were not playing with him any more he paid me $10 and quit. Front 9 I beat one guy and broke even on the other. Ended up shooting 80 (+8) from way back there which made me feel like I shot like 65 or so. I ended up on the back getting both guys and since the one was a carryover I ended up getting him. So I ended up winning $70 for the day which was good since I made Zilch last week. I think I may be coming back.

I do play honest and was in question on posting my handicap. I got home and called our Chairman and told him what was going on. He told me to post it just like I played it. So it put my handicap at 10 from my green tees. It dropped like 3 strokes. We have the individual league championship coming up next week and the Chairman said I picked one hell of a time to run the tables on those guys. I told him well I am honest and besides it will make me play harder. I like being an underdog anyhow. Back in May I was a big underdog with a 14 handicap and ended up net in 3rd place ought right in the Indigo cup out of 44 players. Will find out in league play today. One thing about it if I do not play well the next 3 or 4 days with our system it will go back up

I guess I am in a 3 BR humble abode.  I feel like it’s way too big for us.  But can’t sell bc I want to wait so when I retire I am out with a condo here and there.  But we don’t where there is.  Thinking Pinehurst.

Other than being hot in those Sandhills during summer you will like Pinehurst for the most part. In the 80s frankly public golf in Charlotte sucked too many weekend warriors and not enough courses. We got to where our group of 40 to 50 players 2 times a month would go the 75 miles from Charlotte to Pinehurst area. We ended up on a deal at Foxfire which is in Hoffman NC between Pinehurst and Fayettenam. At the time in the summer tourism was off so we got some fantastic deals. Foxfire has 3 outstanding courses. When we did our little journeys most of the single guys like I was at the time stayed at the resort and it was cheap. The married guys with families drove back and forth each day. Yes like here there is a bunch of great courses to choose from. I know times and demographics have changed since the 80s so I guess like here one has to check rates and deals during the seasons or what ever

I was thinking a condo down there for the winter.  MT in the summer.  I realize it can get chilly, but it won’t snow.  What do you think?

Growing up where I did - Pinehurst was Valhalla.

When I got my drivers license, damn near every Saturday I'd drive there just to hit balls at the range. Only time I could play it was with dad - I surely couldn't afford it on my own! And as many courses as me and my buddy snuck on to, we never did it at Pinehurst 😂 We played #7 the most but #2 a couple times.

Met Jack and Arnie there at the US Senior Open in ... 94 I think it was?

Jack was nice and stopped to sign an autograph on his way to the range. Arnie though? I'll never forget it ...

"Mr Palmer! Can I get your autograph?"

"Of course, son. How's your game?"

"Oh! .... um ... it's pretty good. Need to make more putts."

"We all do. Keep working and I'll see you on the tour soon."

All those stories you hear about Arnie and how he made you feel like the most important person in the room? Yeah ... he did. That little moment with a legend is one of my favorite things. And happened in Pinehurst.

If I had to leave my beloved Vegas; it's the only other place in this country I'd want to live in.

Sounds ok but you will have to deal with the touron snowbirds during the winter.

It never gets THAT cold in the Piedmont of NC. Might get around freezing in winter months but it never really like stays there for days on end. I do remember some days it'd get below 20. Or man, that winter storm of like 2000 I think were we just got hammered with a blizzard. It's pretty infrequent, really.

For the most part, I played golf year around. Remember playing on Thanksgiving day a handful of times. Definitely chilly but nothing like the upper midwest.

When I decided to split LA ... if I didn't love Vegas and the desert so much I'd have almost surely gone back to NC. It's a great place.

And as mama's told me plenty of times "I know you want to think you're all fancy Las Vegas but you know you were born and raised in Lillington North Carolina."

"I know, mama."

Lillington.  Wow. I bought a new 2003 mustang GT from lillington ford.  Still own it.  Logo  still on the keys  .  Hard to read. But there. I don’t know how we ended up there exactly , but My wife wanted a burgundy  one  and I had access then to the dealer locator. I guess I looked it up and went on a hunch. I couldn’t tell you anything about the town.  Just that it’s small.

The photo from the Wiki about it ... yeah, that's Front St and the MAIN DRAG. And that's pretty much all we had. Make a right at that light and there's a little bit for a minute.

That brick building on the far left in the distance is my dad's old office. Mom kept it going for 10 years or so after he died before finally selling it.
