My buddy Clayton just got a new putter. Why look it's the new hot and popular Jailbird from Odyssey. He and I are going to have a few putting matches and also watch the high school golf teams practice.

No golf today, -3C with a strong wind and snow flurries. A good time to get the clubs ready that I am selling at the GHSC Collectibles and Memorabilia Show on Sunday. Photo from my porch.

Funny.  Ironic.  I just returned from the local golf store where I was forced to buy the Jailbird Mini CH Ai ONE and trade in the DoubleWide blade I bought in November.  As promised, the distance control was excellent but I never putted lights out with it.  So we'll see with this new one.  It'll be in the bag and on the course tomorrow at 10AM.

What are the grasses on your course Hickory? Are those bent fairways and greens? That looks pretty green for Ontario in the middle of March. Do they overseed in the fall?

Something tells me you are not kidding. Have you experience with painting putters? Can you make it look decent enough?

Good question LP.  A while back I bought a nice Titleist 3-wood on eBay for almost nothing, because it had a pop-up mark on the head.  I only care about performance (unless it's alternating black & white lines) but I also didn't want anyone to think I put that mark there.  I never pop anything up.  So I used fine sandpaper and then masking tape to cover the face, hosel and first inch of the shaft.  Then I gingerly spray-painted it all flat black.  Good as new without any aim markers on top, which I despise anyway.  And I have done the same thing with a putter or two.  Excellent results.  Though you have to consistently use a head cover or the paint can chip off.

Speaking of putters I have a new grip arriving that I will be installing on my Spider this weekend. I have decided I wanted a little thicker putter grip as I use a quite skinny one currently and have for years. This is what I am going to experiment with. I got the  Blue Start model which is tapered.

Are you allowed to use that grip? I know you're good but it says right on the grip "Pro Only".  Gotta love the names they put on golf equipment.

Speaking of which, my daughter lives near an Air Force base in Gwangju. Since their northern neighbor fired a missile recently, they’re doing joint exercises with the U.S. I’ll try to get a video. It’s pretty cool to watch, circumstances aside.

If you don’t want the paint to chip, spray shellac after the paint dries and before removing the tape.  Also if it’s a tiny spot, use hairspray because it also contains shellac.

They don’t overseed in the fall. I will check with our Head Greenskeeper on the type of grass. Our courses never get as brown as yours, obviously a heartier grass is required here.

How about the rest of you guys? What putter grip do you use?

For a standard putter, Ping full cord. 
 

For my now-committed, all-in side saddle approach, it’s a Bobby Grace split grip that feels like it’s made by Winn grips. 👎🏼 Wish someone would come with a firm / hard grip for broomstick putters. I like all of my grips as firm as I can get, and SuperStroke, Winn, etc. I just don’t like very much.

I just have the midsize Cameron on my putter.  I don’t know what it’s called.  I suck with the equipment questions.

 

Used Superstrokes for years but they make the putter head feel light.

 

For reference I am LHL, and the SS helped me keep the hands quiet.
