It's a very clever idea and design to fix a problem I certainly recall in early graphite shafts ... how they'd pretty frequently just snap at the hosel. Other things addressed as well. So what they did was basically do an "hourglass" design where the shaft tapers more towards the middle then tapers back up with layers of material down to the hosel to strengthen it there. 

 

Problem with a bushing?

 

It then tapers down again inside the hosel. 

 

Noted patent for anyone who wants to read some nerd stuff.

Interesting design feature. I never dealt with a repair on one when I had my club business. A couple customers had them and the irons that with the bullet shaped shaft that was notorious for coming loose. The hosel on those was also ginormous.

I'm not sure the economics of your course but Augusta probably has a little higher maintenance budget...😜

I hit an Orlimar Trimetal for years. Loved that club. I was playing at a local muni and asked the pro if they had any demo drivers available to play. He handed me the Orlimar and I hit it well. After my round, I told him I’d like to buy it. He let me know that the Orlimar truck would be there next week and I told him “No, I want this club.” I think I paid full freight for a used demo.

I can still remember the high pitched "tank" sound they made at impact. Those small thin heads really produced distance. Nothing was longer.

When I lived in Vegas I had a good golf buddy who lived on Crow Canyon CC in Danville, CA. I went up to visit him a few times. He was an actual Olimar rep and did demos all over the SF Bay area. 

 

 

 

That was back in the days of these irons which I played for 6 months. Any of you remember these rocket launching irons? My Danville friend was also a rep for Liquid Metal so I got a set at a little over cost. They were very expensive irons at the time.

I'd talked to a club tech like 5 or 6 years ago (before I really got into this whole club building silliness) about doing a swap and at the time, kinda felt like they punted on it simply because they didn't wanna deal with it. Which I thought was kinda crappy of them.

 

Changed my mind about that ... cuz knowing what I know now, I don't wanna deal with it either 😂

The masters is pretty soon.  I have never been to a professional golf tournament.  I bet it is a great experience.

 

I am surprised so many people build clubs.  I have never done it and for a minute I wanted to do it but then I got smarter.  I suspected it’s a “cost saver” until the tinkering starts and next thing you know.  There’s stuff everywhere.

Hickory these are from the days when the head golf professional made the clubs himself for the members correct?

 Had a weird sorta hole in one today. Very nice private par 3 course-18 hole - longest 140 yards

 90 yard hole . I hit a sand wedge that was so high it went thru the canopy of a large tree next to the green- rattled around like a pachinko ball and ended up in the hole
