Unusual Forward Tee Scenario

The additional adjustment is for the difference in par  (not CR) between the two sets of tees with differing pars (where one CH has received a different par adjustment than the other CH from different tees).

Mmmm. Do you make the par adjustment if you play the same tees? I may not have made that clear. Actually it would be interesting either way.

There should never be a discrepancy between male and female golfers because there are simply way too many female golfers that can kick the arse of most male players who are not touring pros.

Take it up with the USGA. Like it or not there are different standards for course ratings and for tees, where some tees are rated for men, some tees are rated for women, and some for both.

I think the reason is pretty apparent if you understand the handicapping system: It's to make women's handicaps lower for the same "quality" of player. A women who shoots 80 every time from "TEE A" will have a lower handicap index from a man with the same tees and same score.

The par adjustment is zero from the same tees (for the same gender).  If par is the same then you can make a par adjustment but the adjustment is 0.

Let's be very specific. Men's par for white tees is 72, women's par from same white tees is 73. Woman gets 1 less stroke of handicap compensation or not?

Taken from 6.2 Playing Handicap Calculation (usga.org) .

Stroke Play and Match Play formats (where results are recorded as gross or net scores). A player competing from a set of tees with a higher par must receive additional strokes for the round, equal to the difference between the par of the tees they are playing and the tees with the lowest par.

These additional strokes are added to the player’s Playing Handicap as follows:

Playing Handicap = (Course Handicap x handicap allowance) + difference in pars

So if the competition is based on the men's tees the ladies get one extra stroke over their unadjusted CH in the case that you described.

OK.  Thanks. Sorry for being obtuse. I now see @Newbywas referring to 6.2 of handicapping manual.

Negotiate something and get on with your lives. Best suggestion:

Let them move up, but still play the men's tee par on the holes.

yeah, seems like the solution would be one of two things:

  • call it a "par 5" in terms of the group's stableford scoring. This then wouldn't require any adjustment to any handicapping, rating, or slope.
  • or let them move up on that one hole and call it a par 4 for stableford scoring.

On my league we play one tee box up on one specific hole because the forced carry is too much for half the league. We make no other adjustments, as it's only about 30 yards, but enough to make a difference as far as making it over the junk.
