Talk me in or out of a broomstick

I’ve struggled immensely recently as a putter, always been very hit or miss. Particularly inside 10 feet.

 

i used to be a great putter as a kid and used a 36” putter as a young teen, as I got older (and bigger) i just noticed my putting always never felt right.

 

i’m 6 ft 4 and 27 y/o and use a 35” ping PLD anser right now and i just feel hunched over - the biggest complaint is I cant practice for long periods of time before my back hurts/gets tired. 
 

i’m considering a change into a broomstick putter to help me sit a bit more upright and ultimately be able to practice longer without hunching over and hence hurting my back. I think being able to practice longer with an alternative setup is ultimately better than 30 mins at a time with conventional.

 

I’ve had a 37” putter in the past and while it definitely helped, still felt it was a hair short from being perfectly comfortable. Any tall people switch to a broomstick and can share their results.

Personally not a broomstick fan, but I'm only 6 ft... 😀

 

But you can't argue with the success of Lucas Glover after the change.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t give it a shot. Especially if it will increase your make rate on shorties.

I'm 6-5 and pushing 50 ... have tried the broomstick a few times, still own 2 of them, never really felt comfortable ... if you're having back issues, I'd take the time to build a 15 minute daily stretching routine to build and keep a healthy back, even if you do go to the long putter.

I’m 6”1’ have broomstick I played for 1/2 season for 2 seasons  Definitely better for my back. Also doing something completely different only helps my putting Gets rid of misconceptions in putting motion.  I am back to conventional putter but no hesitation to return to broomstick

Haven't checked recently but they used to be real cheap second hand after the anchor ban. Can't hurt to try. Could also look into something longer like the odyssey tank series. Not broomstick length but could work.

Got a LAB DF 2.1 Broomstick early this year and completely transformed my game. Just like it has done for Glover. Just too easy to see the line and swing it on the proper arc. I am rolling the ball better than ever. I would give it a shot. My opinion, only try a LAB.

I say try one. Why not? But I would look at brand options. The Mezz 1 was a strange putter for me. Did not own it long. You may or may not like the center shaft. For non-center shaft options I like the Odyssey 2-Ball broomstick or the old Scotty Cameron Kombi long putter.
 

My conclusion is broomsticks are easy on short putts but on long putts you have to put in the time to get the distance control dialed in. They are somewhat cumbersome to use. I am way better on longer putts with a conventional build and once I fixed a problem in my alignment I didn’t need a long putter on the shorter ones. It was a Seemore putter that helped me get set up correctly and improve accuracy.

Went to golftown and they had a left handed mezz broomstick and tried it out - very impressed, i’ve never tried a broomstick putter and it swung very nicely and i made just as many putts as i would make with a regular putter. Assume i would probably get better over time as I have zero experience with this method
