I want to hit a wedge 5 yards shorter ...

I've got a wedge I can comfortably hit full shots with from 125-115 by choking up and down ... If I want to change that range to 120-110 - without changing loft - could i accomplish by shortening the club by 1/4 inch? I'm not worried about lie angle.

Grip down another 1/4" then measure from there. Fastest, easiest way to guesstimate.

Leave the 1/4" on and just hit 1/4" behind the ball.

Make the swing length a little bit shorter.

This is done by changing loft. No idea why you’d want to cut the shaft rather than bending it unless that club happens  to be as long or longer than the wedge preceding it in loft (ie is your 54 the same length as 50). Cutting it will not guarantee a loss in distance. A degree of loft changes distance by approx 3 yards (however this changes by swing speed).

Sharpen the grooves. Higher spin ball. Bend 1 degree weak. Choke down more.

As a minimalist player, I'm frequently taking a little off or shaping the shot a little differently to fit the situation. No big deal and also a lot of fun.

For just this one club? Should I have a different spinning ball for each club?

It’s not how I’d do it, but since you are asking I’d recommend adding some lead tape to the head and taping off 1/2” of the grip to choke down. 1/4” isn’t moving 5 yards. Not for me at least.

Make your 'stock wedge swing' length a bit shorter and your 'stock carry yardage' will decrease 5 yards.

I dunno - for me "stock swing" is not a single thing. My "stock" driver swing isn't much like my "stock" 8iron swing and neither are like my "stock" wedge swing. Taking that concept further, my stock 60* swing isn't the same as my stock 52* swing.  I've adapted to each club, at least to some degree.

 

I think if I took a swing with my sand wedge like I do my driver, I'd probably have a more than decent chance of whiffing.
