I wish I had the disposable income to cut my 5/7 wood shafts down to 40". Love me some short fairway woods, but pretty much un-re-sellable that short.

Totally the same thought for me. My 5 wood I use is a sim2 max 18 that has a speeder evo Vii tipped 1.5” at 40.5” playing length. I don’t think it would ever sell but luckily I love it so I’m playing it still.

Are those playing lengths or shaft cut lengths on his driver/5 wood?

I knew he played a shorter driver but didn't realise it was that short and 40.25" for a 5 wood is tiny!

Are his irons shorter too?

Anytime I've seen specs like that it's been for OAL

I recently bought a pulled 80g hzrdus black from a 7 wood for $30.  I had an extra titleist tip already.  Its been tipped 1.5" already and plays at 41.5 in my 5w .  i'm going to probably trim it another 1/2" probably.  Pretty cheap experiment to me.

Yeah with a 75g tensei or 80g hzrdus that can readily be found for under $50 I would have no prob with that either...but when I'm staring at an uncut $350 graphite design or ventus shaft I have second thoughts 😂

It's really stupid tbh and I'm usually the first person to say just go for it but man it's tough to move fairway shafts when you swap them out so much, much less a fairway shaft that's like 39" when pulled.

I have an AD TP and AD GP cut down to ~41.5" play length since theyre on the cheaper end of the graphite design spectrum and have no prob with that.

I think it seems like most players play their 5w/7w well short of standard.  So its really not unusual at all for a guy that is 5'8 especially.  They have to keep the flight down and want it to go a specific distance.

The oddity to me is that he plays 610 120s in gw/sw bent 2 strong then goes 125 in his lob wedge.

yeah, I would never do that (uncut expensive shaft).  I have a few old RIP 80x shafts from some 910s that are 88g too.  If I couldn't find a super cheap modern shaft i'd use those in a heartbeat.  then if I like it scour the internet for the a ventus 9 or 10x etc... used.  (I'm cheap)

btw, this has been discussed before but his wedges are 54@52 then 58@56 and 58@60 IIRC.  There are 2 58 degree wedges bent 4 degrees apart and ground differently.   The one that says 'maya' and has a 125 shaft is the 60.
