The announcing crew mentioned yesterday how long Sei Young was in her 2015 rookie season. She finished the year 10th in driving distance at 263 yds. 263 yds was 11 yds behind the driving average leader Joanna Klatten. 

 

Last season she finished the year averaging 265 yds. That was good for 28th place. She averaged 16 yds behind the leader, Polly Mack.

Golf clichés often crack me up, but at times they're cringeworthy. During the 3rd round coverage one of the crew stated that Sei Young was not afraid to go low. Lol. Is there any professional golfer who's afraid to go low? Any player ever stand on the 17th teebox with a 63 looming and decide to block a drive into the trees to avoid a low score?

commentators often misuse that saying to describe someone who has low rounds in their result history. the saying actually should be: a player is not afraid to risk a good round in order to go low.

Tough crowd. It's just her 3rd event of the season. Nobody plays great in every event.

...but she was #44 for 2023 (262.2 yards) ... currently #7 for 2024 season.

The first time I ever watched women's golf. I went to the suite behind the 18th at Siam Country Club and watched May triple-bogeyed away her title.

 

Since then, Honda has always been my holy grail. I would take it over most majors. I would take almost anything to see a Thai lift this trophy.

 

2021 was a relief, but that year I didn't care who won between May and Jeeno. This year made up for what May and Sim blundered a decade and a year ago. At last, we held on this 18th.

I think a lot depends on the player's accuracy on the measured holes (last year was not a good year for her, but we still don't know what it was like on the measured holes).  Fly it into the rough and you are giving up 20 yards of roll (on average).

Another note of importance. When May won in 2021, there was no crowd because of Covid. This is the first time Thai fans ever witnessed a home win.
