Great wide-brim hat that can be used for golf-suggestions wanted

These look fab ... albeit wish they had a wider brim

They're perfect for kayaking.  The brim doesn't flop in the wind and they're very well made.

That looks like the same concept as the Shelta hats at a much more pocket friendly price point.  The brim not flopping around is huge out on the water kayaking, but can also be a real big annoyance on the course for me.  It's like having a baseball hat with side and back coverage.

A second vote for the Dakine. IMO a cleaner profile than a lot of the golf-specific ones. Runs a bit on the small side, so I would recommend sizing up - for reference, I wear a Richardson 112 with only 2 or 3 snaps connected (depending on when my last haircut was), and went with XXL on the Dakine.

I picked up one of these on Amazon before I want on vacation to the DR in January. Comfortable on my bald head, packs flat and the quality is as good as any other I've seen.

Sorry, not as brave as @goalie to show myself on here to model it lol!

Cheers!

I'm old and obviously not a model.  It's a gift to truly not GAS anymore.   😁

That said, the pic was after winning money on long drive, with a pink ball, at golf league last year.

If you play in wind....you'll need a firm brim as well or it'll flop all over the damn place

That was the biggest issue I had with my Tilly, very annoying when the wind is blowing which is frequently out here. I've been using this Adidas bucket hat and like it, not as wide brim as some but works for me.

Unless the weather is cold, just get a Tilley LTM8 in a size that lets it fit well without being too snug in the sweatband.

It's not particularly ugly, not particularly stylish, just a plain looking broad brimmed hat with mesh sides, in a taupe/tan/khaki kind of neutral color. Can be washed on gentle cycle about 100 times (and air dried) before looking any the worse for wear. Can be washed many, many more times if you don't mind it being a bit faded.

It's going to keep the sun off you as well as any hat that doesn't have an enormous, unmanageable brim. It's durable and washable, because it comes in exact sizes it's comfortable and the mesh sides means you will still sweat in hot humid weather but not nearly as much of a head-sauna as heavier, solid-side hats.

If the wind chill is below 45F or so those mesh sides aren't your friend! I keep an old solid-sided Tilley around for those rare occasions I play when it's that cold.

I'd say about half the people I play with in a given week wear either LTM8 of the similar LTM6 nowadays.

P.S. I can only comment on hats that are practical in the Sweet Sunny South during the summer. Heavier, unventilated cloth hats will be a sweaty mess for half the year and straw hats (unless you are willing to wear them after they get nasty) will be sweat stained and awful looking after the first 85+ degree Heat Index day of the year.

I have one in blue that I wear all the time in the sun, golf or otherwise

The Shelta hat mentioned on the first page has a "baseball hat brim" in front.  I use one with narrower side coverage kayaking all the time.  They're not cheap, but the Shelta hats are pretty amazing in that regard.  I plan on trying the Dakine with a stiff front and back brim, as I've had good luck with some of their mountain bike apparel.

I’ve worn the “Condor Performance Sun Hat ” on the course everyday for the past year, 8-10 hours a day and this hat just performs.  In case you take it into the water, it floats.  And the “bend” you see will be there for good, no matter what you do to it.
it’s not “wide”, but it covers your head, ears, face and neck.

I just pulled out my Firebird V2 and noticed it is pretty sweat stained.  Granted, I have used it hard, but the khaki color seems to show stains.  What color do you wear, and does it show sweat stains?  I leaning towards the grey or camo.

Thanks for posting about the logos.  My golf team is Weapons of Grass Destruction so I'm going to get one with the skull and crossed bunker rakes on the front and W.O.G.D. on the back.

comfo and provides good coverage

Thanks for the answer.   I'm going with the Imperial "Old Norse" with custom logo and golf league team name on back to try first.  Between that and my white Callaway sun hat I should have everything covered without looking like a hobo.  And, to be honest, I'd rather look like a hobo than have skin cancer anyhow.

Yep, I have a size 8" head and life's too short to spend 4 hours out in the hot sun having my head squeezed by a so-called "XL" size hat that's actually about size 7-1/2 or 7-5/8.

Shelta goes to 3XL. I have 3 of them and wear them religiously.

I did the desert camo color

i just wash it in the shower before it starts showing any stains.

Good choice.  I also use Shelta hats and I love my orange Seahawk!
