When the dust settled from a one-hole playoff, it was Lilia Vu holding the Dinah Shore trophy after taking a dip, continuing the pond-jump tradition made famous at Mission Hills Country Club.

As we've touched on recently, most of the top players have yet to distinguish themselves in the majors. Double digit wins, but only one or two majors. No guarantee, but Nelly needs to snag a couple more big trophies to garner the next level of admiration.

Good news, I didn't know it:

 

"Club Undergoes Course Renovation

After more than 50 years of being played in Rancho Mirage, Calif., The Chevron Championship moved to the Houston area and its new home at The Club at Carlton Woods in 2023. Immediately following last year’s championship, the club underwent a major renovation that saw all 18 holes modernized in some capacity. A new irrigation system was installed, fairways sand capped and every green was rebuilt to USGA specifications and standards. Expect the putting surfaces to play much differently than they did last year with firm and fast surfaces, in addition to newly constructed bunkers that have been moved closer to the green complexes to further enhance the major test."

Next to winning in Paris I think a major would be a fitting way to see Lydia inducted into the golf HOF so I wish her all the best this week. While Nelly deserves to be favourite I'm not reading as much as the media has into her recent wins. Her stats show she is certainly beatable and with two playoffs and a match play win it's not like four outright dominant tournament wins the media portrays. In defence of Nelly though despite the course can be setup to favour Nelly's length off the tee she still has to execute the shot and at the moment is taking advantage of it. 

We are getting plenty of live coverage but not showing the ESPN+ feature group as yet. Hopefully this is also available here. Looking forward to seeing the newly renovated course and hopefully it's a true major test weather permitting.

 

@Argonne69 I really appreciate your input into promoting this LPGA forum and starting the new tournament topic with it's relevant information. As someone who did this exact thing for a couple of years here I know the time it takes and research you have to do to do this well almost every week. When someone suddenly jumped in before me one week...and did a poor job of it.... I stopped doing it and thought great you can start them all now...which they did for two weeks before promptly leaving the forum completely!  .....It's easy and polite to send another member a private message and ask before jumping in....I would have appreciated that. Keep up the good work.

I will be interesting to see which players make the feature groups each day...there are a few who justifiably should be there the first two rounds based on RR rankings but I would not be surprised if Rose is in there on a favourable grouping again 😂

Lydia flew in her coach Si-Woo to SF from Korea for 5 days of work last week.

well, hopefully this event will be more interesting/exciting/competitive than the Masters R4 Back 9...  otherwise, just watch Muni He (Reserve #4 here) along the paddock with Alex Albon this weekend 😆.  

 

Seriously though, with Nelly being so dominant - won't be surprising if it ends up like the Scottie show last Sunday.  (not good for me, I'll be certainly switching channels if that happened, like Sunday the 14th)

I agree. She likes to point out it wasn't 4 consecutive tournaments on the schedule, that she took a 7 week break in-between her 1st and 2nd win. Some might think that the break has made this even more inpressive.

Also she says " four consecutive victories on the LPGA Tour hasn't done much to break into the mainstream." I disagree. I have talked with many people in person and online that are not big LPGA fans, but have been taking notice and are talking about the streak. I think (and hope) that the ratings this coming week will high.

My field rating this week is a super high 88% (up from 85% last yeear). This tournament regularly has the highest field rating of the year!
In fact, this is the highest field rating of any tournament since the 2019 ANA Inspiration (the previous title of this tournament) in 2019 when my rating was 89%.
My breakdown is 92% from the LPGA Priority List and 84% from the Rolex Rankings. Every single player in the top 30 of this week's Rolex Rankings will be teeing it up.
The field stregnth was helped out by non-LPGA players:
Akie Iwai
**Jin Hee Im 
Jiyai Shin
Miyu Yamashita
Shinsil Bang
All the above players are highly ranked players who are big stars on other tours. ** Jin Hee Im is actually a rookie on the LPGA Tour this year, but has earned her way into this event because of her high ranking.

Other Stuff:
Brooke Henderson and Nelly Korda each registered their fourth top ten of the year (in Nelly's case four first place finishes), joining Ayaka Furue, and Sarah Schmelzel for most on tour.
Nelly Korda's victory was the 5th for the USA this year, no other country has more than one.

There were some moves worth reporting in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players since the end of the last tournament:
Nelly Korda stays on top for a fourth consecutive week, and 41st week overall. That is the most weeks in that position of any American player in the history of the rankings. She now has a very large lead and it doesn't figure she will be caught anytime soon. To put this in proper perspective, and give credit where it is due, Jin Young Ko holds the record with 163 weeks on top of the Rolex Rankings!
Hannah Green moves up from 19-16.
Rose Zhang is a beat away from joining the top 20 (as she fights for an Olympic spot) moving from 23-21. She will need to finish in the top fifteen and be one of the top four USA players.
Leona Maguire jumps from 30-23.
Sei Young Kim bounces up from 39-34.
Minami Katsui leaps from 90-79.
Narin An enters the top 100, and into my field rating, leaping from 107-81. Yu liu falls out of the top 100 this week.
Outside the top 100, Moriya Jutanugarn vaults from 123-105.

Been a big fan of So Yeon for years. Got a chance to follow her group for a round at the 2017 KPMG, 2017 Volvik, and the 2018 KPMG. Total class. She'll be missed. Hopefully she gets a sponsor's invite somewhere down the road.
