This is NOT the strongest team that could’ve/should’ve been fielded. We all know who is missing.

Oddly worded. Makes it sounds as if there was a choice. The top four guys according to the qualification criteria are going, end of story.

It was based on OWGR.  Even with the win Bryson only got up to #10 in the world.  Cantlay would've actually been next in line.  It's not like Bryson got snubbed or USOC passed him over, it was purely based on IGF qualification criteria.  Maybe they'll do it differently for 2028 because it certainly hurts the prestige of the event to not have Bryson in the field.  US gets favorable treatment anyway with 4 slots in the field.

Any country can get the 4 players in the Olympics for golf if they are ranked in the OWGR top 15. It's not a USA only rule.

Yeah, Olympic golf excites me about as much as Olympic break dancing. 
 

Regarding CM. The food pics will be cool. But I’m more excited to see what kinda kicks their dog is gonna wear for the opening ceremony!

If this was announced today, then I'd have to suspect that the decision was made before the US Open was even played. Other criteria than the US Open win were used, so I don't see any foul here.

Same rules used as the previous two golf fields for the Olymics were selected. Nothing new or any conspiracy about it.

It is known OWGR is suspect because when the Masters, the PGA championship, and the US Open make special invites, they have the presence of mind to consider golfers who are overlooked by owgr

I still don’t know what that means.  All golfers can make a choice to put themselves in a the best position to be ranked in the owgr.  The criteria is clear to everybody or am I missing something?

It is cool that the Senior PGA champ gets an invite to the PGA Championship.

I haven't gotten excited about the Olympics since they started allowing professional athletes to participate. I'd rather see the best amateurs have a chance to do it.

It means that the owgr uses a flawed methodology, datagolf is more thorough

I’m not sure how you come to that conclusion but it your opinion and it’s valid.

 

the fact remains that the owgr is the system used and it’s clear how the system is used to determine who gets into the Olympics.  If an athlete wants to compete in the Olympics, its on the athlete to put themselves in the best position to do so.

Technically true (the best kind of true) - but the rule was put in place specifically for the United States players to avoid completely diluting the field.  People already sort of roll their eyes at Olympic Golf so they needed to do something to make sure at least a few extra top players were in the field.  The US is the only country to have been able to take advantage of this exception, to my knowledge, since golf came back to the Olympics in 2016.

 

Looking back at the OWGR, at least back to 1996, 2012 is the only year that any country (GBR) other than USA would've been able to take advantage of the Top 15 rule.
