What Handicap Range Is Recommended For The P7TW Irons?

TripleB

Recommended Posts

I picked up a set of these the other day (or at least they shipped out the other day) but haven’t had a chance to hit them yet. I was originally thinking I wanted some Mizuno Pro 245’s but this deal came up and I couldn’t pass it up. Would a set of P7TW be appropriate for an 8 handicap like me or should I just flip them and get something more forgiving (like the pro 245’s I was originally looking at)?

Seeing you have bought them, looks like without a demo, buy, do an on grass test.

IF you dont think they are forgiving enough, keep em a year or two in the WRX Closet we all have🤭 i have had mp33,37 and looking for mp4 or 5 or 20.

Keen to grab a set of p7tw as prices fall. Most sets minimal wear. Have some fun,get some pics and do a Mini P7TW Review😇

I'm a 9.4 and am still using the VR Pros which are incredibly similar, however it's tough to gauge in pure handicap terms. My iron play is one of my strengths and I know where the centre of the clubface is - I just struggle to keep the clubface aiming in the correct direction, hence the 9.4 index due to an occasionally wild long game.

Again basing this on the VR Pros, but they are a lovely set of irons and worth trying, as if they work for you they will really work (if that makes sense). Up to the 5 iron they aren't especially hard to hit in my opinion - the 4 can be challenging if you're having an off day.

If they don't work, flip them and try something else.

If you want them, anyone can play them. If I played with you consistently for money I would strongly endorse that purchase!

I’m an 8.6hcp, shot my 3 lowest rounds with a set of j15mbs. Do I think it’ll make you better or worse? No. For me it actually minimized my misses. As long as you are a good iron player, I don’t see an issue. I probably wouldn’t use the 3-5 iron, but that’s just me.

If you have a lot of shaft lean you’ll like them as they kick up spin and launch. If you flip they might drive you nuts. Further to that the best ball striker on tour doesn’t play the 4i so that might tell you something. I had a demo set for a few rounds and enjoyed them.

I play blades because they are fun and I hate myself, not because of a handicap range (I have no idea what my handicap is).

I’m thinking I’ll give them a try and if I don’t like them look for someone to buy them or trade with. I just love the look of them so much I couldn’t resist getting them even though I’ve never hit them to see if I like the way they play!

This is the correct way to make golf club purchases.

Turns out it didn’t even matter if I could hit them, guy shipped me an empty box in an attempt to scam me. Tried to say that I took the clubs out and then claimed an empty box. Luckily my UPS driver is at my house all the time (thanks to my wife), was willing to help, and attested to the fact that the box was clearly empty upon delivery.  Now just waiting on PayPal to rule in my favor on the claim.

Wonder how they'd get away with that. Doesn't UPS charge by both box dimensions & weight even for commercial clients? Only have a FedEx label lying around at the moment but it also has the shipping weight on the label.

Yes, but if you make the label at home you can put any weight on it, UPS only brings up an issue if the box is heavier than the label amount. Now I’m sure they have a record of it being scanned as less than a pound at someplace during the shipment so I’ll have to contact them if this doesn’t get resolved quickly.

I sure hope these were not purchased on here from a Wrx member.

UPS should be able to confirm this by the initial weight of the package. If he just shipped an empty box that will be obvious.

I just got off the phone with them, they were able to trace the scans of the box and showed that it weighed 9oz at the time it was scanned during shipment. I’m waiting for an email from them with this info so I can upload it to the PayPal dispute I opened.

To answer the OP's question, you probably will get the most enjoyment out of playing them if you hit irons at at least the level you expect from a low-single-digit handicapper. If you're not that good, mishits will likely be punishing and ultimately detrimental to your score. But with that being said, play what makes you happy. Back in the day blades were all folks had and everyone played them.

Appropriate???  It depends on the level of course your 8 index is founded on and your level of commitment to improving your ball striking, which P7TW will require; not so much with 245s.

IMO there's a significant difference between strong lofted hollow Pro 245 and more traditionally lofted P7TW blades.
