If I weren't feeling so certain, I might let those comments dissuade me. There are 19 days to melt about 18" of snow. Farmers Almanac is calling for a mild, wet March until the last week which could be well above average. I think it's going to happen!

It would be nice. If nothing else to grab a bag of scrub balls and get to a fairway and just hit a bucket. I've got about four different drivers and several woods and wedges I need to weed out for this year.

I was told the snow cover in SW minnesota isn't too profound, so there may not be much to melt. If that's true, that would be the best bet for MN golf.

That sounds familiar. I do most of my club work and frivilous purchasing in the late winter. Many of the new clubs have no real shot to get in the bag, but they are invited to spring training anyway.

It's tougher for those of you folks north of us in the Twin Cities. Literally once you get north of the TC (and North Branch-Stacy in particular) the seasons really do change noticeably - earlier Fall and Winter and later Spring and Summer.

Completely sure! It's super easy. My first builds were wedges and now I'm hooked!

Just make sure your prep on the shafts is good and epoxy is mixed well. You'll be fine!

[/quote]I wouldn't sweat it. As Jensen said just make sure the epoxy is mixed proper. Also get the "tour van" shafting epoxy - they had it on clearance ($4) on Golfsmith.com not long ago.

Only do a few clubs at a time because that tour van stuff hardens faster and frankly is more difficult to work with.

Here are tutorials and some vids if you are a little leery still: https://www.google.com/#q=assembling+golf+clubs

Anyone know if this is going to be another drawn out nightmare of a snow season? My dad said March is always the snowiest month, which kind of scares me. I'm just ready to get some swings in if nothing else.

Actually we might be able to start pretty early this year from what I heard. Bulrush is planning on opening the front 9 in 3 weeks as of this weekend. We were up there and there is a lot of grass showing especially on the front where it is wide open with little protection from the sun. We will have to wait and see I guess!

Add me to the list of the "If I can do it you should have no problem doing it" people. Seriously I built up every single club in my bag and none of them have fallen apart yet!

Ok all you master club makers. Do I order from GG, GS, or is there a cheaper route? Will the shafts come at the correct length or will I have to cut them? Then I suppose now I'll have to install my own grips? So now I need a vice?

Are you in the cities? What area?

Also what shafts are you looking to order, there isn't a lot of price differences between places, but sometimes you can find them a few bucks off compared to GG or GS. Yes you will have to cut them :) For the grips I'd highly recommend a vise and a rubber shaft clamp. I bought a fairly inexpensive Ryobi vise from Home Depot a few years back and it works just fine. Harbor Freight also has pretty good prices if you don't mind ordering and waiting. For the grips I'm a big fan of blowing them on with an air compressor and using regular masking tape or painters tape instead of the double sided grip tape. It's much quick and easier plus you can always pull the grip and save it if you are switching shafts.

If you are just doing a couple wedge shafts and need to buy all the materials and tools it's probably going to be cheaper to have someone else do it. However if you start getting into it you will save money in the long run doing your own stuff. Just be careful because once you start down the DIY slope it gets really slippery and you'll want to add more things to your tool bench.

I've never used a vice to install grips and I've done them a couple hundred times I suppose by now.

Just get a 24 oz old pop bottle, fill it with thinner. Put your double sided tape on the shaft, put a tee in the grip butt end, pour some thinner in the grip, close it with your hand and shake it, pour it out. Dip the shaft (with DS tape already on) into the 24 oz bottle of thinner, grab the grip and install.

If you do it right - it should be quite easy, after a couple - you shouldn't lose much thinner at all. Always have a couple scrub shop rags to hold the grip and shaft when you dip and pour.

As far as the shafts, depends. If they are tapered they are ready to go. You will likely have to cut at the butt end though, which will give you the most trouble out of anything. Getting ferules on can be a bit difficult but there are ways to get them on.

I live up in Ramsey (Northfork). I want to try some modus 3 in my wedges.
One think I'm scared of is going down that slippery slope.
