Well, took a long walk with a down parka on today and didn't get overheated. I still was kinda kicking myself for not playing.
It did seem nice out there with the lack of wind though. Grr....probably shoulda played. Oh well. My body thanks me.

Shoulda gotten out, Divots. Gorgeous day for the first couple of hours at Oak Barf. With the ponds frozen it was much easier to make poor decisions knowing you could get bailed out. Tried to drive the green on 10 and had the ball rifle off the pond right and land on the fringe. The lack of wind really made for great playing conditions. Now I'm pondering a round tomorrow as well if the wind is going to be tolerable.

Isn't #10 about 286 yards? Isn't that about a half swing for SLDR? ;o)
Anywhere else open aside from Oak Marsh? I might get up and go tomorrow. We'll see...

Yes, it was playing about that distance and I aimed right at the pond thinking there's no way I would ever hit it where I aimed. Flew it to the back part of the pond and it took a HUGE kick straight up and landed just right of the green. I made a solid par, DOH.

I think there are a handful of courses that were advertising opening the doors through tomorrow. I like Oak Marsh but it's a heck of a haul from this side of the city.

I'm trying to take care of myself. You guys are not helping! ha! I played really well to end the season, so I'm pretty content to not go shoot a frozen turd of a score out there with a parka on. LOL!

Where'd you play, Joe?
[/quote]Phalen. It was "closed" though. lol. The only reason I went was because there were a bunch of other people already out there. but truth be told the greens had a light layer of sand on them so the putting wasn't the greatest, although the putts were rolling okay.

I can't believe Oakie is open still. The Swamp, lol

The nice people at Hollydale in Plymouth gladly took my money this afternoon. And I was glad to pay/play! I had never even heard of the place before today. Nice layout, very straightforward but not straight, and not a lot of blind shots which I appreciate when I'm unfamiliar with a course. Sort of reminded me of Southern Hills, maybe not quite as drastic elevation changes but still reminded me. Concrete greens, but of course I have no idea how they are when they aren't frozen :dntknw:

I just can't play Oak Marsh anymore. There's just no good that can come from that. I don't think I've ever played well there.

I try not to malign ol Oak Marsh. They're open earlier and they close later than nearly everyone. I usually play it in inhospitable conditions like early spring or late late season like this. I haven't shot at that well there either as a result. It will be a novelty playing it in calm conditions tomorrow. Hell, for $18.50 walking, if I get too cold I'll just pack it in and head home.

That's awesome on Phalen. Monday is forecast for 37º last I saw.
They don't chase people away? I haven't been there in years.

Phalen has really loosened up their grip as far as laying the smack down on people being out there at times when it's closed. The pro (former LPGA player, I think) is a bit of a, uh, tough gal, I guess, and if she sees you she won't even let you out.

Once kicked me off the practice green when they had closed due to cold weather.

But more or less, yea, it's usually kosher there.

That said, unlike a lot of other courses they open earlier in the season and close later (usually) than most other courses I can think of. This was the earliest they've closed in years for some reason and I don't know why. All the St. Paul city courses apparently have been in the red for the last several years according to an article recently in the Pioneer Press. That probably has something to do with early closing and lack of staff and rangers.

Let's just say with the lack of wind and leaves coupled with frozen hazards Oak Marsh probably couldn't have played much easier (except if they unthawed the greens, of course)

I spent 1 hour between 3-4pm on the range at Oakmarsh. When I left already some people was leaving so I guess everybody played quite fast today.

Shoulda played, mon! It did go pretty nicely out there. Our group started on #16 and we even went around and played #16-18 again for 21 holes.
Was nice until the clouds came, then it was a little chilly. $18.50 for 18 holes and I won $13 in skins. A good day. 36-38-74. And I get to say I played in December this year. Woot!!

Jay, what made you go i20? Was it something about them, or just that they happened to be the model you got a deal on?

I'll be curious to see what you think about them. I need to get my excrement congregated with respect to the woods portion of the bag. Not entirely enthralled with anything at moment, though tuning down my R11s with the Speeder gave some interesting results at the end of the season...

Well It helped that I got an INSANE deal on them, but I wanted to try going back to a glued hosel so I wasn't messing with it all the time. A very Anti-WRX move.

Sadly, I get that. LOL

I can't bring myself to go glued hosel, yet anyway. In my case, it's not tinkering with the driver, it's swapping out shafts. Though I don't really do it all that often.

I might unload the Nike because it seems the Flex Loft adaptor is largely unavailable anywhere. No adaptor, no bag status. That might be very WRX-like. LOL

But Titleist.... ugh. "Let's copy everyone else and market them into thinking they're Players for using our gear"

I thought it was TM, but I admit I don't know for sure. I wasn't really FPA to equipment around the time the adjustables started showing up on the scene.
