Best Golf Course Name

A good friend of mine belongs to a beautiful, private course named "Hidden Creek" in NJ. Invariably, people ask why it's named Hidden Creek. The answer is that there's a creek way off to the left, concealed by woods and brush, on hole #4, their signature par-3. When you get to the 4th hole, you can't help but ask, "Ok, so where's the creek?" And, of course, the answer is always, "Well... It's hidden."

 

LOL

 

Seems odd to name a course after something that is apparently there but that you just can't see! Funny, but true. And just an awesome course.

I have played Furnace Creek a couple of times. This was back in the '90s, summertime, both times it was approx. 120* F. So hot I couldn't beleive it. First time I lodged a ball in a Palm Tree off the tees and the next year I went back and I could still see it in the tree. Fun times.

I've actually played Furnace Creek about 10 times. I was managing some construction in Death Valley for a while. I appreciated the fact that there was a golf course in the middle of hell....so no complaints from me....lol.

 

My favorite golf course name is Jackass Flats, Parker AZ. Sometimes wild jackasses roam the "fairways"...really. Something of a local secret as there is no grass anywhere on the course, so its hard to find. It requires some special friends for a foursome...sometimes a case of beer is consumed before the turn..... ;)

I've only ridden my bike there and never played it, but there's a 9 holer on Mackinac Island, Mi with 2 sets of tees called "Wawashkamo Country Club." Named by members of the Island's Anishinabe or Chippewa Indians, Wawashkamo means "Walk a Crooked Trail."

 

It's Michigan's oldest continuously operating golf course and was built in 1898.

The Robert Trent Jones Trail at Silver Lakes features a (3) 9-hole layout. The Backbreaker, the Mindbreaker and the Heartbreaker.

Bloody Point, Daufuskie Island, SC...played it once and because it was on an island got to take a boat to the course. That was a novelty loading the clubs into my friends boat.

On 18 there is an old tree trunk in the fairway with a noose hanging from it...

 

Used to play a 2 day tournament there every year, that noose almost got some business more than once.

I played several courses in the Indy area. Coffin fits the bill. I also thought "Sarah Shank" had a unique name. ;)

I think they got that name from the sounds of the crows in the golf course, it is actually called Wack Wack and it is one of the more old style exclusive country clubs in the Philippines, definitely not a pitch and putt.
