I carry. I counted 18 total steps from my car to the bag drop and back. My knees are both bone on bone :-(

I used to carry until I hit 45 and developed shoulder problems. Had some push carts , but generally go back to a cheap old pull cart. If I do carry a bag, it's a sunday bag with 6 clubs in it....

Clicgear 3.5+; feel so stupid avoiding pushing for so long. Its smooth, easy to assemble and so much easier on the back.

I caddied when I was young through my 20's and 30's I carried my own bag when playing in golf leagues. I had a pull cart but the action of pulling the cart hurt my back more then carrying the bag on my shoulder. I have back issues now and ride but have been toying with the idea of getting a canvas sunday bag.

Bat-caddy 8xr.

I have a clic gear 8.0 but I have a bad lower back and my course has some pretty good hills on it. This made it kinda expensive to walk but now I can. I could not go 18 pain free before. Feet, back, neck and knees all would hurt.

I lost 20 pounds and now can walk no problem with the bat caddy.

25 more pounds to go and should be able to be able to walk pain free. (Car accident is the cause )

I don't walk as much as I would like, as I play in the morning to make the wife happy and the group I walk with plays in the afternoon. But I walk in the afternoon after work as much as I can.

I used to have a bag boy, but carts take up too much space in my trunk, so now I carry. My bag did get noticeably heavier when I switched irons last year, but 9 holes doesn't cause any fatigue, and I can usually go 18 without getting tired either. I imagine g I'll go back to a push cart someday though. I refuse to ride unless everyone else I'm playing with is riding.

Sun Mountain 2.5 has allowed me to carry. My first one fell apart so we shall see if my second one holds together.

I've carried my whole golfing life (23 now) and am reconsidering it. My future career is going to be very hand on my already weak lower back so it seems to me like carrying is just unnecessary load.

Any thoughts on this? I'm in good shape but even when I study for too long my back hurts for hours.

Also if I used a pull cart it allows me to get a little bit bigger bag for more storage

If you can spend the money.. Get a power cart.. I have a bad back and cannot carry, or use a push cart...

was hit from behind 20 years ago, started giving me problems about 5 years ago on a regular basis....

I can do the push cart, except up hills, the position hurts my back something fierce...

I bought a bat caddy... its fantastic. one can be had for about 400 bux... and about 500 with a remote... if you can do it, I would recommend it. totally different experience..

Lot of defensive people when it comes to pullcarts I guess. Sorry if my opinion struck a chord wih a few posters. Listen, I am not trying to be a dick, just putting my perspective out there. It's just something about being old school, have some toughness, take in all aspects of the game (even if a sore shoulder is one of them). My Dad is 53 and still hasn't decided to give up carrying his own bag. Something about the way it was as a kid, the bag chatter of McGregor blades, etc for him. Modern pullcarts are just goofy in my opinion. I liken them to those golf belts that store tees and divot tools etc: Functional, smart, but a little dorky. However, for people with injuries or just plain age considerations, I imagine they are the best thing going. Maybe it was just the circle of players I grew up with. We are all good players and could just never grasp the whole pullcart thing, besides the above stated cases. As far as the analogies I made go, why is the caddie analogy bad? Sure this guy doesn't have to play any shots, but HIS JOB IS TO MOVE GOLF CLUBS FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER AND HE CHOSES NOT TO USE ONE, EVEN THE FEMALE CADDIES DONT USE THEM. As far as caddies at private courses in your area, does the caddy master let them use pullcarts on a double or single loop? Why wouldn't they if they are so great? It's about integrity, honor of the game, tradition, getting your hands dirty, etc. And for the suitcase analogy, I'll concede that wasn't the best example of what I was trying to get across. Lastly, I have, and will continue to be beaten in my life by people with pullcarts. That is not the point I am making.

The rest of us just aren't as cool as you. It's okay.

I've carried my whole life too (playing for 14 years now).

I think the push/pull cart is the way to go. The benefits strongly outweigh the negatives (if there are any). You can keep your bag heavier since you aren't carrying it and have snacks/drinks/rain gear in it. It also should help fatigue throughout the round too.

I am 40 years old, i've been playing golf since i was 12 and I've gone through the professional ranks during my time.

As a young, impressionable kid i used to try to emulate my heros that i used to watch on telly and i would carry a tour bag - i know, daft isn't it.

I stopped playing at 20 and picked my clubs back up again at 35, since which time i have been doing a mixture of carrying in the winter and trolley in the summer.

My back has suffered as a result of that carrying in my younger days and by the end of the winter i'm usually in pieces unable to play properly. Only once i am able to switch back to the trolley does my back recover properly.

Save your selves! use a trolley.
