How do you walk 18?

I get to the first hole and put my tee in the ground. Then hit my shot and subsequently picking my bag and moving on my feet to the next shot . If I'm playing really good I'll walk between 18 greens to tee boxes and only have to chase down the ball 36 times . Do this until you arrive at the clubhouse

47 years old and just gave in and went to a push cart.

When I first started playing--mid-thirties or so--I walked because I was young and broke and couldn't afford the cart fee. Eventually I started making more money and started riding in carts. Then I realized that I enjoyed the game more when I walked, so I went back to carrying my bag. I love the Sun Mountain 3.5 bag.

Unfortunately, old back injuries from my misspent youth are catching up to me and the post-round pain from carrying the sticks on my back isn't worth it anymore. My wife gave me a ClicGear 3.5+ for my birthday and I love it. That is one amazing piece of engineering.

I use a push cart. That way I don’t have to worry about how much weight I'm adding for rain gear, extra gloves, rangefinder, etc. I don't want my score to suffer late in a round because I'm lugging all this stuff around on a hilly course. There's a reason the pros use caddies.

They're rich?

I'd love to see caddies and walking make a comeback and carts be reserved for those physically unable to walk 18.

When I started playing and was more or less broke, I walked because it was cheaper. When my career was moving along and I could afford to ride, I switched to riding.

Eventually I realized I preferred to walk, so I went back to carrying.

Now that my back is showing the effects of stuffing motorcycles into solid objects and age, I'm using a push cart. Really glad I can still walk. I think it's a big part of the game.

I love to walk but have medical issues with my legs so carrying my bag isn't feasible anymore. I have a cheap plastic pull cart and will invest in a nice push cart in the future.

I have friends that always pay to ride in carts and so I hop in when I play with them to keep pace. I can't see how they enjoy themselves though; I hate riding in carts. I can't seem to enjoy the beauty of the course that way.

Unless there is a fairly significant difference in skill level, meaning the guys in carts are way better than you, I would argue "keeping pace" is not an issue. Whenever I walk on to my local course, I use a push cart and have never been behind. That's playing with every skill level: 30+ handi's to scratch guys. On many holes, I'm actually the first on the green because I have a direct path, without having to park the cart.

I carried for a while. It was better than those rickety carts you could rent. But now, the carts are awesome, so I'm happy to bust out my Transformer (aka clic 3.5) and push it for my round.

Like Uncle Scrooge said... Work smarter, not harder.

I've seen comments on both sides, so I want to ask: on hilly courses, is a pushcart more (or less) strenuous than carrying?

I think someone mentioned that pulling a cart uphill is easier than pushing? (You can pull a "pushcart", right?) But how does it compare with carrying?

Another thing: anyone go from carrying to pushcart and miss having two hands free while walking?

I love this topic. I am 32 in decent shape, no gym rat but I get there 4 days a week. In HS golf I always carried and it was cool. After I played in HS I took about 8 years off from 18-26. When I first started playing again (in god awful shape I might add) I carried one round and hated it, it was just to much. So I started riding a lot. Last year I decided it was time to eat healthy and get back in shape, down 40+ in a year. I started carrying again and truth be told I hated everything about it. Grabbed a CG2.0 off a guy in the league I joined and it was the best investment I made. I enjoy walking again but no way in hell do I want to strap any extra weight on my body if I do not have to. I applaud you folks who carry, but I prefer my pushcart all day, plus it has the cooler underneath for my non competitive rounds where I need a 6 pack just to take the edge off from slow play hhaha.

In a white jump suit carrying a bag, and getting paid when its all done!

BTW Note to Sun Mountain/Ogio. You really should design your cart bags to be carried. They ride terribly. They are akward, and there are over 125 Caddy facilities in the country where players not used to a walking course show up with a log of a cart bag. We have a 35 Lb limit but its not weight its how the bag carries. Both of the clubs I work at are over 6.5 Miles and dont really have a flat spot anywhere.

If you want to design great bags then you should get input form the guys that carry bags!!!

Cheers
Scott

Just put the 2014 sun mountain three 5 zero G into play. This is the best carry bag ever. Super light and the hip belt takes all the weight off your shoulders and distributes it across the hips. I just finished 18 today and never felt so refreshed from a walking round.

Agreed. I had a question about that bag on another forum but no responses. I found a used one on ebay ($70.) but no belt. My wife called Sun Mountain and they offered to send a new one at no charge (thanks Sun Mountain). In the mean time, I bought a woman's weight lifting belt that fits perfectly and has a quick release velcro strap,...............but I'm not sure I have the shoulders straps adjusted correctly as it doesn't take "all" the weight off the shoulders. It does take a good portion of the weight off though. You are right...it is the best carry bag ever. In my opinion the belt is the biggest improvement in carry bags since the invention of carry bags.
