Before my broken leg this March, I was carrying my Sun Mountain Four5. I've been pushing my old Clicgear 2.0 for the last couple of months but will go back to carrying next season.

I started carrying 10 years back when I was 60 and it was a cool, damp day in March. I just wanted to get used to hitting the ball after a long winter so I left the Sun Mountain push cart in the garage and put a few clubs in a lite bag. I liked the freedom and added more clubs as the weather improved. But it's also nostalgia - walking connects me to earlier times when golfers wore metal cleats and sounded like they were marching off to battle walking to the first tee, courses were simpler, there were no electronics and fewer cart paths. Fortunately, golf remains an impossible game.

I've been using a pushcart for the past few years except for the few tournaments I've played, in which we used carts. Took out a Sun Mountain carry bag today and was surprised that it seemed easier than pushing the cart around. I think I'm going to have to try it a few more times and it may become my standard.

I found that up hills sometimes the push cart is worse.

I've never walked a course. The course I play the most is ride only.

1 of my golf goals for 2017 is to walk a course.

However, 80% of the time the temperature is above 25 degrees centigrade and pushing to mid 40s in Summer.

If I ever walk a course it'll be with a push cart or electric cart.

I'm 33 and would rather save my back than carry.

Used to carry all the time in my twenties, now that I'm in my fourties I bought a clicgear 3.5 and it's the best thing since sliced bread!

When I play on my own, I like to carry.

Sometimes, in Summer, when I get onto the course after work, I get to play between 9 and 12 holes. I will play until I can't see the ball flight and then stroll back to my car in the almost pitch black darkness.

Just me, my bag and the sound of my clubs hitting each other. It's quite therapeutic... as long as I don't get mugged by a red belly black...

I got quite burnt out on carrying playing on the golf team in high school. Leading up to the start of the season we'd do some practice days where we'd carry 27 holes, and would either have 9 hole practice or matches every week day from early August to mid/late October. After that, I didn't carry a single round of golf for nearly 15 years. I only even walked once at Oak Trail at Disney in Orlando (par 35, walking only) and that was with a push cart they provided.

Towards the end of this past season I picked up a Qwik Fold 2.0 push cart on Craig's List and used it a handful of times to see if I liked it, and I do. I'm joining a club that has a ridiculously low membership fee but high cart fees. The do, however, allow walking after 2pm during off-season and after 4pm during peak-season. It'll rarely, if ever, offer enough daylight to walk 18, but I'm hoping to walk 9 with the push cart at least once a week.

I've also just put together a minimalist set... it's 6 clubs in a 6" stand bag, most of it robbed from spare/backup clubs or bought from Goodwill. I'm also hoping to play 9 holes once a week with this set, both to increase the amount of exercise derived from the walking and to work on shot creativity.

Sometimes, I think back at how often I carried 72 holes in one day and how exhausted I was - you develop bad habits when you're that exhausted. Then I moved to a "golf all year" climate and I probably carried 300 times a year - before I started working at a golf course. Over time, it takes it's toll. I remember I saw a curve in my upper spine area in X-rays, where none existed previously (I always carried over my right shoulder). I now have constant back pain in that region. As I got older, most of the courses I played required you to ride golf carts, but I suffered a few back injuries riding too.

If you younger people play lots of golf. Consider the pull cart.

I'm only 74 and walk three times a week with a light bag . . . under twenty pounds. That said, I'm lucky to be enjoying good health and have no significant injuries. Two gentle yoga classes each week are essential, otherwise its a sore back. :( I must say that I sleep well, too. :)

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.
