Maruman Urushi

$100,000 Set

so i got some news from my local golf shop, they had a demo of the Maruman Urushi. never heard of them, i mean, i've heard and seen maruman but what the heck was urushi?

brought my camera and took some pics. these are $100,000 custom ordered clubs from maruman. pretty shocked about the price. that and the work of art.

Urushi refers to the graphics on the clubhead where it's hand painted in traditional japanese method using paint + metal dust (probably gold here). Commonly seen in japanese fountain pens. Beautiful work of art.

Wow...leave it to the Japanese to create something like that. I'm left completely amazed and stupidifed at something so beautiful and yet so utterly unusable.

Then again, they did invent a dress that could be used also be used as a vending machine disguise...you know...just in case a female gets chased while their out on the town. (Google it).

ehh...Thanks but no thanks. The craftsmanship is cool, but I think they are ugly. Ill spend 3k on a set and invest the remaining 97k. My guy just got a hot tip on imported ice and Im all in!

I'm not a 100% fluent but from what I was able to translate, I found out that:

 

1. all the artwork is done in 24k gold

2. the face of the iron is made of "diamond-like carbon" therefore is hard to damage (don't ask me what this is or means, I translated it word for word)

3. If you couldnt tell by the photos, this is a collabo project between Kenzo Sugiyama (club maker-guy on left) and Kazuko Watanabe (artist-female on right)

4. The driver and FW uses something called a "twin-unit" which allows them to lighten parts of the club and strengthen others which promotes a higher ball flight.

5. Driver and FW are mainly made of Titanium

6. Price-wise, it is actually closer to $200k in current conversions. (i.e. 16,800,000 yen for the entire set)

7. It also says its a 3-month turnaround for the order

 

That's about the extent that I can translate...let me know if there is something in particular you want translated. I can try but no guarantees. There has to be someone else that is better than me at Japanese on the forum??

 

Personally, regardless of wealth, I wouldn't get a set like this. It's a golf club and my main goal is to make my game better. If it doesn't help me score lower then its a load of crap. Kind of like dishes (china) that sit in a case...wtf is the point?
