Hey snow -- FU! :(
Hey! Hush up. LOL. It's gonna be 2 cold to golf so we might as well have some fresh PowPow to play in. Braaaaaaaaaaap!
No such thing! Snow on the ground has melted, so crisis averted. Current weekend forecast is for high of 37. Still playable! I have no winter hobbies, so I need to extend the season as long as possible, though I've been having some right wrist pain lately, so some time off after my Dallas/Phoenix trips probably isn't the worst thing.

Friggin' forecast for the day I'm supposed to play in Dallas is 48 degrees right now.:censored2:

Careful on that sled -- my buddy's dad broke his femur when he hit a ice patch and slammed into a tree sideways last year -- spent about 2 hours on the ground in the middle of nowhere waiting for EMS to show up. He was actually lucky -- even managed to get back out on the course this year.

With you on the extended season, but the reality of job and and finances is I'm only going to get to a warm weather location a few times during the winter.

Thanks for the ridin' concern. We primarily ride gas and power lines to powder honeyholes and boondocking. Not interested in trail riding with the Snowcross wannabe, bar hopping crowd.

Not to worry, it'll warm up in Dallas for you.

I can't go far this weekend -- it's either local or nothing for me. Too many holiday get-togethers and other BS to be able to get away.

wow great list. I played 4 on that list! Did you like Tullymore? I played it and Loved it. Loved St. Ives as well but had some flaws inc. terrible bunkers and terrible coffee!

Tullymore was a treat. I played Sheppards a few times and it kills me each time.

I can't wait to play with you guys this summer.

How is Shepard's Hollow? I have always wanted to play it but haven't yet. What does it compare to and how do you rate compared to other tracks in the state? I know the biggest drawback is pace of play.

Sheppards is tough. Long. Almost every approach is from an uneven lie. A few gimmicky holes where I hit monster drives but lost my ball due to rolling fairways and such.

Course was in amazing condition when i played it.

Not really sure what I would compare it with. maybe Devils Ridge but Nicer?

How many of you fellas have crossed the border and played Ambassador Golf just outside of Windsor?

http://www.ambassadorgolfclub.com/home.html

probably my favourite course in the area. If anybody wants to play in the Spring there let me know.

No tips for me. Play the back (gold). It's ALWAYS windy there. Seems like the wind is always in your face. 6665 into the wind is plently long for me considering my home course is 6200!

I was trying to come up with a course in the state to compare it to, and the one that I came up with was the Arthur Hills course at Boyne Highlands. Then I got curious about who designed Shepherd's Hollow, and lo and behold, it's Arthur Hills.:hi:

Another that I think is pretty similar is the Grande in Jackson. SH doesn't have as many split fairways, but the style and terrain of the course are pretty similar, IMO.

SH is nice, but if you ask me, it's not worth the weekend rack rate, and the pace of play on the weekends is glacial. I'd love to play it midweek sometime to see how it plays when it's not a traffic jam.

I played it on a Friday, where we had one of the early sets of tee times and minimal traffic....it still took us 5 hours. I think that is what they estimate a normal round there should take.

I liked the design of SH, though like Arcadia and Forest, playing a round to get a lay of the land definitely would have helped. I left wanting to play a few holes over again, simply because of things I didn't see/realize until I played the hole.

Your Lions? Listen up youngin', I've been going to Lions games since before you were born. Earliest memory is 1966 at Tiger Stadium with my Dad. Don't recall the opponent but it might have been the Thanksgiving game. Anyways, it was the game Harry Gilmer got pelted with snowballs from the stands. He was fired and replaced by Joe Schmidt the next year.

Besides, your from Windsor, they can't be "your Lions". That would be like me calling the Toronto Argonauts my team. Just kidding Kev. All the above is tonuge in cheek. Us Lions fans are certainly a "brotherhood" to put up with the Leo's.

No Carl's for me. Going to Talleys Tavern in Lewiston for the best cheeseburger on the planet.

Yeah, played them both yesterday. I think I like the Monument a little better, just because it has two driveable par 4s, and I like those kinds of risk/reward holes. Both courses are pretty similar, though. Desert golf is interesting. Missing the fairway usually means death. I only lost 3 balls in 36 holes, which was better than I expected. Missed my first ace by a foot (less than that actually -- it rolled by the hole and couldn't have missed by more than 3 inches) on the second par 3 on the Monument.

I forgot to bring my camera, and I've been kicking myself for that. It's quite the photogenic place. And the houses?! My god, there's some serious money there.

The lions and the good ole days!!!! Went to a lions game in 68- also a thanksgiving game..... my brother caught a ball, that was back then before they had nets to stop the field goals and extra points!!!! Come to think of it..... 68- is that the last time the lions won a game....lol

Hey Openwater....... I know they have some great cheeseburgers up north...... Talleys and whats that joint on Michigan ave in Dearborn???? But without a doubt, the best cheeseburger on the planet is in Siler City NC at a joint called Johnsons ..... If your not coming in March then Odshot can tell you all about this place.......

Not good news to hear Camaro prices are dropping...... guess the supply is ramped up full throttle now

Getting back to Michigan golf...... I never really hear anybody say anything about Eldorado Golf Course in Cadillac. For whatever reason, a group of us seem to have ended up here running from rain at other courses, either on our way up north or on our way back from the north.

Last year, on our trip we were getting hammered with rain at True North one day..... so we started calling different golf courses until one said they didn't have rain..... when we called Eldorado, they said that the rain hadn't got to them yet, but that there was a good chance they were going to get wet that afternoon..... we loaded up and headed there anyway...... when we got there, they gave us a really nice rate and told us that they hoped we got in at least 9 before the rain came...... we started on the back nine, as we wanted to see if anybody could par the 18th hole. We played the tips and I don't care how long you are, to par 18 from the tips at Eldorado is simply a great score......matter fact, just making par from any tee box on that hole is great.

Anyway, the course conditions were just like up north courses, and we got in 14 holes before the rain came...... we went in and ate at the Cadillac grill ( I think that is what they call it) and the pro asked us how many holes we got in..... we told him 14..... and he invited us back the next day as the weather was supposed to be great...... oh, and he said it was comp'd as he was giving us all a rain check for todays round if we came back tomorrow...... we did indeed come back the next day and the course really dried out well- except hole number 1 was very soggy, but other then that and a few spots on another fairway or two, the course was in super condition from tee to green.

We played the tips again, and none of us made par on 18..... 2 of us 3 putted for bogey and one of the guys chipped in for birdie from just outside the water..... it was one of those water splash shots that just was awesome to watch...... it ended up costing us, but was great to see the guy get his birdie.... I think from 4 rounds there, none of us have made par yet on the 18th hole.....

Great course for a great price..... makes for a good stop over on your way up, down, or across to another course......

OBT,
The end of year company owned closed auctions are this week. I've been buying like a maniac, Suburbans, Yukon SL, Hummers, D-max crews, Express 15 pass vans. Trying to buy a 10' Grand Sport Vette Convertible in jetstream blue, but I've been coming in 2nd place on those.

BTW, OD wants me to get him a Stinkin' Linkin'. Talk some sense into him would ya'.

Eldorado is a decent track but not northern Michigan golf IMO. They treat people great and provide very cheap golf. There is a website ezlinks.com that you can play for $25 for 18 with a cart. The track is pretty easy though. I agree 18 is a great hole from the tips. You have to nut a drive then have 210 yards all carry over water to a huge green. 2 good shots are needed for par.
