JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP)—Tiger Woods has decided to get rid of Steve Williams as his caddie.

Woods announced on his website Wednesday that he and Williams, who have been together since March 1999, will no longer be working together. Woods said only that it was time for a change.

Woods did not say who would replace Williams, or when he would return.

Williams has worked the last two majors for Adam Scott of Australia.
Looks like the reports from last week during the Open were correct. I'm guessing Tiger is done for the season. I could not imagine him showing up at a major with a caddy he's not all that familiar with.

I could be wrong, but I thought you only needed a caddie if you were actually playing :)

Wonder if this is what the aborted Golf Channel interview from last week was going to be about...
No, that was about he and Steinberg moving to a new ad agency IIRC.
i believe the aborted interview was about the caddy split and he reconsidered as it would have screwed up adam scott's lead up to the open.

look at the timing of the announcement, tiger's mate clarke wins the open so tiger lets him have his few days in the golf headlines then announces.

for me this decision was made prior to the open. no way tiger was doing a sit down about steinberg ,why would he???

I know it's been beaten to death, but he needs to dump Sean Foley too, swallow his pride and have Butch look at him again. Take that natural ability and get him back to where he belongs.

Huh - what does it matter, its not as if he is going to win anyways...

Well if he's not playing why does he need a caddie! There is only one caddie that can replace him and that's Billy Foster. But very much doubt he would leave Westwood.

Lots of rumors that Tiger is having cash flow problems. Given Tiger hasn't played any golf, much less good golf, in quite some time that Stevie may have been having cash flow problems too until he got the gig with Adam Scott.
Nike's still putting checks in his bank account every year, as is EA Sports and now that Japanese product. I would think cash flow is just fine. Maybe not the cash flow of 2009 but he's definitely not having to cut coupons every Sunday.
I doubt he's clipping coupons either, but your are only taking into consideration half of the equation. A lot of money is going out the door too without the help of Gatorade, Gillette, Tag Huer, etc.

Sean Foley, you're next with your hybrid stack and tilt stuff. That won't work on that bad left knee.

A player/caddie relationship has to be a bond, not a business transaction. Sometimes, that bond becomes toxic. Maybe Stevie lost respect for Tiger. Maybe Tiger will really be absent for a lot longer than we know.
I have heard a few rumors about Steive being, shall we say...Tiger-esque off the course. If that's true, perhaps their lifestyles just clash now.

Whatever the case, we'll never know. Tiger ALWAYS plays his cards close to the chest.

Stevie's full statement is on his website...
STATEMENT: Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80's I am excited about the future working for another Australian.
Amazed no one has mentioned these guys weren't just business partners. Stevie was Tiger's best man. They have been good friends for a long time. Considering the short list of those that Tiger has, that's what surprises me about this move.

Also love our golf writers who find it good enough to grab two words (Shocked, Disappointed) from Stevie's statement and call it good. Top notch journalism there.

This is a joke.

Tiger Woods running out of money?

A year ago he was a billionaire!

Pays Elin say $100,000,000 and is now broke after being paid another $75,000,000 last year according to the business guy on the golf channel?

How can he be broke!

As for Steve Williams, in my opinion a great caddie before him and will be after him.

Tiger has gone to pieces since his Father died and will NEVER be the same.

His problems are of his own making not everybody elese.

Sorry for starting this topic if was already common knowledge around here. The previous thread was locked up and didn't seem to have much more than a bunch of speculation/unverified reports unless there is another thread somewhere around here that I missed. I must admit, I didn't exactly go looking for another aside form the one from last week.

If this thread is just beating a dead horse then by all means, Mods, please delete it.

From here, TW will either be one of the greatest come-backs or one of the greatest tragedies in professional golf (maybe even professional sports).

I honestly didn't think this split was going to happen.   I always found Stevie's candor with TW on the course to be important.   TW needs people who will speak their mind especially since he lost his father.

I still think a good butt kicking from Lee Travino would do TW good.
