Everybody reacts a bit differently to cold. For me at 50 degrees, I would probably just stick my hands in my pockets between shots - it's just a hassle to lug around gloves and take them off for each shot. I guess handwarmers would be nice. But really at that temp, if it's not wet out, I wouldn't get overly cold.

Get down around 40 and I would carry loose fitting (cart) mittens so I could pop them on an off with my standard golf glove on. My hands just don't get cold all that quickly so I prefer to have the standard summer one-glove when actually hitting and putting. Then put the mittens back on while walking and waiting between shots

Get much colder than that and I would wear actual thermal golf gloves (FJ Wintersoft) with the mittens over.

Any colder and I go back to the standard summer gear since I'm probably just on a simulator inside somewhere.

Similar situation in MN right now. I just picked up a pair of the above mentioned FJ Wintersoft gloves and I was pleasantly surprised on how comfortable they were to swing with. Left them on the whole round (even putting) and by the end I was taking them off between shots as my hands got too warm.

IMO for $20 they are a solid investment and worth every penny. Worst case is that you don't use them the entire round, or just use them between shots to keep warm.

I picked up a pair of the Nike rain gloves from a Nike outlet store for $4 this past spring. For $4, they were one of the best purchases I made all year. I keep them on the whole round when it is raining or if starts to get a little chilly I will put them on too. For me I really like them because I don't worry about the club slipping in my hands, so I am able to still make normal swings. I don't know if it was only the store I was at where they were discounted, but that may be a cheap option for you as well and you could keep them in your bag for when it rains as well.

I played this saturday in Eastern PA and the high was around 50. I just wore my normal FJ Weathersof glove and occassionally stuck my hands in my pockets between shots. I felt comfortable and the cold was not a factor for me. It really depends on your tolerance to cold. I tend to think I fall more on the more tolerable end of the cold scale because when many people at work are complaining about being too cold I am usually comfortable.

Keep in mind that with a high of 50, depending on when you tee off, the majority of the time on the course it will be colder than 50...that's assuming that they day gets warmer as it goes along. Dress in layers that allow free movement.

Also, I have a pair of Titleist mittens that allow me to pull them up over and off my hands while still keeping them on. They do a great job of keeping my hands warm in between shots and when it's time to grip the club, it just takes a second or two to pull them up and expose my hands. Great little items.

I bought them about a decade ago so I'm not sure they are still available...I'm assuming they are since they're great little inventions.

I'll see if I can Google up some pics.

Stay warm my friend!

Well 50 feels different depending on what part of the country you're in. I'm in Colorado, high this weekend is 57*.. I'll probably wear shorts and a long sleeve shirt as long as the sun is out. Here it feels 10+* warmer in the sun. If no sun, I'll wear pants and a sweater but no hand warmers or mittens.. just stick my hands in my pockets between shots.

OK....Here's a link to the Cart mitts I was talking about. They are open at both ends so there is no need to take them off to grip/swing the club...you just lift them and bunch them up around the wrist, swing, then pull them back down over your hands. I wish I would've invented them!

50 degrees for me usually means long pants with rain pants over them, a base layer (FootJoy for me) and a collar shirt. If it's any cooler than that, I will skip the collar shirt and just wear a base layer with a sweater. Sweater still counts as a collar and at those temps, a short sleeve collar shirt isn't going to do much. Its all about proper layering that restricts your swing the least. As for the hands, usually rain gloves and taking the right hand off right before shots works fine if you keep your hands in your pockets.

I'm a PA local and play all through out the colder months so just a few suggestions:

1. Get the FJ Wintersof gloves, 50 here is too warm for cart mitts but too cold for just a regular gloves and sticking your hands in your pockets between rounds

2. Layer up, get a long sleeve (compression preferably) base layer then put a polo over that and bring a wind breaker, once/if the wind starts blowing it gets cold quick but thats nothing a good windbreaker won't fix

3. Bring some sort of a warm hat, it keeps you very warm since you loose a ton of heat through your head and it doesn't restrict your movement like a sweater or windbreaker would

If it gets colder between now and then which it very well might you probably will need cart gloves and hand warmers if your hands get cold very easily like mine do. With 50 degree temps you shouldn't really need a base layer under your pants but if you are traveling from out of town I'd bring a pair just incase the weather takes a turn for the worse.

He said 50 right?

Wool socks? Layers? Mittens? Hand warmers? This is a joke, right?

According to my Iphone it was 39*(Fahrenheit) and sunny, with a stiff North wind while I was playing the 16th hole today in my collared shirt, covered by my Mizuno windlite sweater and shorts.

It's supposed to finally get to 50+ for a high this weekend and I'm thinking I may be able to finally play without any kind of top besides my shirt.

Yeah, since you said you struggle with cold I would go with hand warmers in your pockets. Wear a cap & just keep your hands in your pockets between shots. If you ride, insist on getting out to walk between shots as that will warm you up.

Take it low this weekend & remember putts don't break this late in the year ;)

Underarmour or equivalent Coldgear, with layers on top. Definitely a knit hat - the hat is probably the biggest help of anything. I just bought some cart mittens. The most reasonable priced ones I could find were from Taylormade. Golf Galaxy had them on sale, then on top of that a lunch time sale discount and free shipping. I got them for about $25 delivered which is about half the price of the Titleist or Ping alternatives that I looked at.

I'm not a big fan of the cart covers, propane heaters, etc. But throwing a wool blanket on the cart seat can make a nice difference.

I am playing Friday in PA and there is a high of 50 degrees. Is it worth buying winter gloves or rain gloves or jus use hand warmers? Suggestions? I know it is not freezing, but I struggle in cold so am just asking for some advice.
