Yeah, that's a unique course for the area. Never played it but watched my son there a couple of times. Stayed in one of the condo's and the nearby restaurant had pretty good food!

Usually play it every year....but haven't made it there, yet this year. I like the course and hopefully the new management is keeping it in good shape. Will get there in a week or two.

I actually like the back 9...except that long dog leg par 5 kills me...lol.

If you like to fish\ski and golf...the condos can be great. Dock your boat and basically you don't have to leave to do either.

Took a ride to Marion and played Meshingomesia today. Former private track that's now public. Well worth the stop if you're in that area, especially for the $13 hot deal price. One of the best conditioned courses I've played from tee to green throughout, and unique if compared to most in the Indy area with lots of undulating fairways and elevation change. Several holes were very tight and tree lined. Small tilted greens rolled true. Only hole I didn't like was #9 with a large tree in the middle of the fairway that I luckily just rolled past on my drive.

I played Rock Hollow last Sunday. I really like the course. I wouldn't say it's in excellent shape, fun none the less. If you played it last summer I would say the conditions are similar.

I'm driving back from Michigan Monday or Tuesday. Might have to make a stop and play rock hollow. Not in that area much but have heard good things.

Played 9 at Plum Creek in Carmel yesterday. Pretty good shape despite the flooding the past week. Lots of changes going on to a few holes, but it was still enjoyable.

Has anyone played the Culver Military Academy Course? Is it tough to get on?

Heard great things about the new Academy course but not played it yet. They dumped a ton of money into it I know. As far as Rock goes, please be sure to let me know if you head my way and say hey!

Played Harbor Links by Brookville Reservoir, Friday. We got 27 holes in and were happy with overall condition of the course. Greens running fairly fast and fairways in good shape also. 30$ for 18 it's a great deal. Will be going back soon....although I can't seem to score well on this track?? More the reason to go back!!

Can anyone tell me about Battle Ground GC?

Indiana University approved a complete redo of the current golf facilities at the Bloomington campus at the June 2017 Trustees meeting. The attached screen grab is the only photo I have seen of the proposed changes, to be completed by Steve Smyers. Smyers also designed Wolf Run and Heartland Crossing. For those familiar with the current course, the new layout appears to have number one teeing off near the current 13th tee (snack shack area) and playing to somewhere near the current 2nd green. From there you should be able to get oriented to how the course will layout on the current site. The pro-shop said there are already about two thousand trees marked for removal and the course will shut down August 31st of this year and will be closed all of next season. I have heard unconfirmed rumors that the plan is to have zoysia fairways and bent greens. As regular at the course I could not be more excited about this project and hope that the reported $12 million budget (course and clubhouse) gets supported long term with a maintenance budget to match. While I really like cheap green fees, I would be happy to pay a significant increase to keep the course at a level that is much improved over the current offering.

Good question. Nothing comparable to The Rock in that area.

 

Honeywell in Wabash, Wildcat Creek in Kokomo and Meshingomesia in Marion are probably your next best choices.

 

I do like The Waldo N of Roann, though. It's a small country course owned by the Harley-Davidson dealership owners in Wabash so the entire spread is HD inspired. The bar rail is made of NOS mufflers. It's just a neat little place.

Alright so i moved to indy this spring, and ive had the chance to play quite a few of the courses this year. I am moving to the north side this spring, and i am going to want to find a "home course" that i can get into a league and have a good opportunity to play in choose ups as well. What would you guys recommend as a home course in on the north side? I am wanting to play somewhere that i can get on often without breaking the bank. I don't mind playing a goat track either.

Stony Creek. I play in a scratch game there on the weekends and pay $25 (walking). There are better courses, but they can get pricey.

Lots of room to hit it off the tee, but make the wrong choice (or wrong miss), and your shot into the green can be very challenging. I especially like the tight areas around many of the greens. Trophy Club is a beautiful course, but they have a major issue with their bunkers and I'm not sure it's going to be resolved anytime soon. It's also fairly pricey and remote.

Never played Warren but I've heard good things.

 

1. Whittaker Woods

2. Whitehawk (36 holes - try to play Blackhawk). 40-45 minute drive

3. Blackthorn - haven't played it in years but I really enjoyed it.

 

Brassie is in Chesterton, 20 minutes from Michigan City and right off I-94. I grew up playing that course. Decent links course - sister course to Legends in Franklin.

He might be trying to think of Lost Marsh. It's in that area.

Good call re: Lost Marsh. Could not think of the name of it. I haven't played it in about 10 years, but have heard that course has not been maintained well. I really liked it, but may want to check that first before booking.

I've only played it once in awful weather (40 ish degrees, raining, and windy) for a WRX outing. I really enjoyed the layout, despite the quirkiness of the first 5 holes or so. I can't speak to the condition at all, as I believe I played it about two years ago.
