Just got word that my connection in San Fran on the way out has been moved back. Instead of getting into Eugene at around noon, i am now getting in around 2. Unfortunately, that pretty much rules out playing Preserve on Monday. Oh well, i'm sure that there will be more changes considering how far out i still am.

Played a round in my rain suit on Sunday- ordered a new jacket immediately after. Water resistant< Water Proof

CHEF, you are in for an agonizingly long few months. I've been making the trip to Bandon for 10 years now, end of Feb, with a group that comes from Oregon, Washington & Nor Cal. The anticipation starts in October. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New-Year only denote dates closer to Bandon. Beginning of Feb and work starts to take a back seat. My wife says that by the middle of Feb, I've already left for Bandon. One week out...Fugedaboutit! As much as you may be anticipating how great it will be...It's better. Enjoy!
Are you with the Stone Creek group?
I just started going two years ago with them during President's Day weekend. My friend had been going since it opened. We had 72 people two years ago and 96 people last year.

Well this thread got me going and my friend not getting a weekend pass from the warden (I mean his loving wife) for the RTJ Trail, sealed it.
I just booked Bandon as a johnny nomates single for Thanksgiving weekend :D Going to play one round on Pacifc, Old Mac, Bandon and then depending on the Sunday weather, play another or head home early.

Going to drive up and pack my car full of every last bit of golf kit I have to accomodate any and all weather conditions.
I'll take whatever I get as far as the weather is concerned and just enjoy being able to walk the courses and take some swings and make some putts along the way (cool)

I go to Bandon every year, the weekend before Thanksgiving and play at least 3 courses at the resort, but try to add Sandpines, Eugene, or the Sheep Ranch on the Friday on the way down from Portland.

The key to great weather during the off season is to bring too much rain gear; I bring at least two of everything and many years, have not needed any of it. The best way to guarantee shorts weather is not to bring any.

It is worth noting that the most profitable piece of real estate on the Bandon property are their pro shops. If you don't bring any piece of rain gear, they will sell it to you.

The Bandon resort pro shops carry every maker of quality golf apparel, so you can logo up with your favorite/best fitting high end gear. It is not cheap, but everyone buys something to commemorate their trip.

This year, we are playing Eugene on the way down, Pacific on day 1, Preserve the morning of day2, Bandon at noon on day 2 and then Old Mac on the final day.

This will be our 8th year...I love Bandon.
Tell me more about the courses in the area please? What is worth playing?

Not with the Stone Creek group. Our group has 30-40 golfers. We go the last week of Feb, over Presidents day weekend.

Exactly! I would give up golf for the whole year just to be able to go. Luckily it is not necessary, but I would.
Hey Sushiyoshi. I just noticed in your post that your there over Presidents Day weekend. Maybe we should try to get together for a scotch and cigar in Feb. If you havn't yet, you should get a couple guys together and make plans to play Sheep Ranch. It has to be one of the most unique experiences in all of golf.

That would be cool. I can't smoke or drink tho.

I have not been able to confirm the dates yet and tee times yet. But base on the last couple of years that I have gone, we will play a course each day from Saturday through Monday. Since the Preserve is now open, I think we will probably play Saturday because our foursome usually have an earlier tee time. We usually start the drive back to Portland after the round on Monday since it's a long drive.

On Thursday, we usually play Sand Pines before heading down to Bandon. Should get there before 8PM. Not sure if we may skip that and get down to Bandon ASAP to play the Preserve instead this year.

I probably won't be able to get a schedule until around Thanksgiving as has been in previous years.

Never heard of Sheep Ranch but just googled it. Looks awesome!

work the 100' lag putts cuz you're gonna see 'em.
+1, especially at Old Mac. and also 100 yard+ bump and runs. That kind of shot can save you lots of strokes on OM

Try to get in the round at Preserve.

Here's a link to my trip report, with photos, that I posted last year. http://golfcourses.w...don-oregon.html

Have a great trip

Kekoa- I'm shocked that you have never been to Bandon.

Ok- I'm sick as a dog, have been cooped up in the house for the last two days because of Hurricane Sandy, and i feel like the thin line between mental stablilty and "the other side" is slowly fading. It's bad when i permanently have the On course camera up as my gleaming beacon of hope. (ok, not permanently- it's comforting to know its there)

Done with the dramatics, it does not help when i don;t get out for a least one round during the week.....good news is my rain jacket works :derisive:

24 more days for me...

Playing in the Portland rain has already warmed me up for it.

LOL CHEFMIZ, when you get better, get out and try to hit some balls amidst Sandy. Bandon will seem like a calm day compared to that.

Got out yesterday and got to play in a nice breeze~15-20 mph. I think the 16 degree hybrid i picked up will be a nice stick to have.

And DeNinny- I hate you (or i'm just really jealous, sometimes i get my feelings confused)

15-20mph winds are probably "normal" at Bandon. At it's worst there I'd estimate I hit in 25-30 mph winds. I remember hitting driver to reach a 200 yd par 3 on Pacific Dunes once.

CHEFMIZ you deserve this since you posted this passive brag thread to begin with. You'll get to get even when my trip is long gone and yours is coming up soon. Get zen...

Just played Pacific Dunes Monday (11/5). Perfect conditions. 60-70 degrees (not kidding - played in shorts and a golf shirt), a little wind (sometimes up to 2-3 clubs) on the ocean holes - to near no wind on some inland holes. Locals and caddies said the temperature was unusual, but not unheard of, and the wind blows more in the summer than wintery months. Blue skies, scenery to kill for and the most service and amenity friendly property you could imagine. Not much else to do but practice, play golf, eat, drink, and talk about golf. A great, great couple of days. No time for more, but next trip will be at least 3 playing days.

Don't forget to hit the hot tub in the main lodge after each round. Especially after those replay days.

Thanks for the update DD4442. I hope that kind of weather holds up by the end of November. 18 more days...

there is one room at the Bandon Inn......called the owner's suite. It's the only private jacuzzi bathtub in any room in the resort. I think the room # is 101 (far left end as you walk in past the front desk). I have had that room a couple of times. That jacuzzi with hot water is a god-send after a long day of golf.

Same here. I've started the planning process for early '14 with a few other wrx'ers. I had to do Pebble/Spyglass first. Now that those are out of the way, its time for Bandon. After that, will need to do St. Andrews. :)

Guys that have gone out recently, do you have any pics to share?

Here are a couple I took today with the sun going down.

Played Pacific Dunes with 3 top blokes and had a great time. As it was 3:30, I asked in the pro shop when sunset is and it was at 4:50. So I paid my replay rates and went back out and played another 10 holes :)

No prob :)
The weather has been great for two days (Thanksgiving and today). Played 18 holes at Old Mac and 46 holes at Pacific Dunes and nary a drop of rain.
That looks to be changing tomorrow and we're going to get wet, but if I've learned nothing else, it's that the Weather Channel forecast hasn't been super accurate to this point.

First time here and this place is living up to the expectations big time
