Mizuno shaft optimizer. I forgot my recommendations. Can anyone check my numbers?

I apologize for the vent. I didn't intend on doing so when I posted, but my frustration is mounting. I take some blame for making the purchase and going through with the fitting. Hindsight is 20/20 The Mizuno rep was fine. The host was actually kind of pushing him around/along. I am hoping to get this worked out. I feel a bit cheated. When Ipay $1, 300 for "custom fitted" clubs, I have certain expectations. I hope Mizuno can set things right.

It looks like you should cancel your order with that retailer and re-order with another. The trusty DG S 300 is your best shaft option for lower flight. Hope you get sorted.

I wonder if Mizuno will let me make changes to the order, or whether I would have to either 1) cancel and order elsewhere or 2) go through the retailer.

Wondering if somebody could punch my numbers into the shaft optimizer? 92 mph 5 5 5 6
Currently gaming s400's, just wondering if I'm playing the correct shaft. Thanks for the help.

The DG recommendation form the optimiser is X100 soft stepped so your are fine with your S 400's.

My numbers are:
81 7.2.6.3

I think it recommended DGS300, PX 6.0 and C-Taper Stiff. My ss and distance #'s certainly don't justify these shafts but I realize it is more than just that.

I built an experiment club with a C-Taper stiff soft stepped once and was hitting 7 iron 150-155 into a wind.

I was leaning towards KBS Tour Stiff instead - slightly softer feeling and higher ball flight.

What do you all think?

I did it this weekend, 89-6-4-9-4 I think were my numbers. Guy showed me where that related to a few tour players in terms of swing styles. Recommended DG X100 and PX 6.0 straight in, and KBS Tour X ssx1. I haven't gotten along well w DG before, and to me the PX 6.0 felt too stiff. Hit the KBS suggestion in a H4 and JPX 825 pro nd liked it ok, but it seemed like flight was real low for a 6 iron. I liked the feel and ball flight with a KBS Tour S much more. I think the optimizer was great in getting a base to start, but actually hitting the combinations is key to finding what you think feels, looks, and performs best.

The two factors driving the strong shaft recommendation are your quick tempo (7) and your late release (3). If you feel you can control your tempo the KBS Tour S (soft stepped) would be suitable. Softer flex Project X shafts (5.0 and 5.5) are also worth testing. The Dynalite Gold XP S300 is also worth testing as it is a very good profile for helping with launch.

You should make the effort if possible to complete a quick test of the additional options before buying.

Would the PXi 5.5 be a good option?

I would guess not simply because of your aggressive tempo, although by all means try them.

Could someone check my numbers please as the computer was down at the range when i got to use the optimizer?

Thanks Dave.

If I play PX 1/4" over standard will that make them play stiffer or softer? I was probably hitting it a bit harder when using the optimizer so am probably around 86/87 so think i might be right between PX 5.5 & PX6!

The 1/4" makes negligible difference. If your 'real swing' DNA is 86 6,2,5,4 then the recommendations become:

Dynamic Gold S 300

Project X 5.5

KBS Tour S
Both sets of options are valid, for example Luke Donald DNA recommends X100 but he prefers to play S 300, so it is down to you to test the options and select the one which gives you the best launch conditions and feel.

By the way if you are not buying Mizuno try to test the combination you are looking to buy.

Please give me shaft recommendations for this DNA.

96 5.6.6.7

What can i do to optimize my swing.

Thanks

I think a swing which generates 96 mph with a 6 iron is already optimised. Shaft recommendations are slightly softer than expected because of a slightly early release. Changing the DNA to 96 5.6.6.6 adds Dynamic Gold X100 in place of the Dynalite Gold XP X 100
What does early release mean in this context? Clearly doesn't mean throwing the club early as that cannot generate 96mph...

Does it mean when the club face starts closing? so a higher number for a smoother closing vs. a low number for holding the face open till very end?

I remember my numbers were

93.3.4.4.9
94.3.4.4.9
92.3.4.4.8

And I was thinking.... what? Do I really throw the club from the top of the backswing?

Thanks again Dave.

I think the tsting club is a bit lighter than PX6.0 so my SS might be a bit lower with the heavier club.

I used the PX 6.0 in Ap2 for most of last year and really liked them. I then decided to change to DG SL to see if the lighter shafts would offer me more distance. So far it's been a disaster with lots of 'fats' and no distance gain!

I wanted to try to optimizer to see if I should just put the PX6.0 back in or try something different.

I have done a bit of reseach today on PX 5.5 v PX6.0 and seems its a personal thing and there is not that much difference between the two. PX 6.0 are a bit heavier and are more likely to be more acurate and reduce misses like hooks however I might loss a bit of distance.

Is this an accurate assesment? How much distance (if any!) am i lIkely to gain from 5.5 over 6?

Since you played the PX 6.0 for a season and liked the shaft I think this would be the better of the two options. I don't think you would loose any distance from the stronger flex (you might even gain a little). The extra weight of the 6.0 is a good match for your tempo which is mid-quick. Your tempo is also the most likely reason you hated the Dynamic Gold SL, I suspect it was too light and too soft in the butt for your swing.

Thanks again Dave. I was learning towards putting the 6.0's back in and this has just reafirmed my decision.

My last dilemma is that I have DG SL R300 in my wedges and they seem to give me better feel on partial shots rather than the PX 6.0 did.

Would it work to use PX 6.0 in my irons and DG SL R300 in my sand & lob wedges?

Hi Dave! Awesome thread and a huge help to us golfwrxers... I took the optimizer out to the range this afternoon for alittle piece of mind. My numbers were pretty constant which made me happy.

89. 5-3-4-6. Could you please plug them in? Thanks in advance!
