High swing speed, quick tempo and late release means no surprises, see post #49 and add CTaper X (not an option in Europe).

(Project X 5.0 for PXi would be the recommendation from the European version)

One more question...I play my irons at +1/2"....if I go the PXi route, would you suggest the 5.0 or 5.5?

I have only found the PXi shafts in std length at 5.0...I like it, but have no since of what the +1/2" will do. Online I read mixed thoughts about needing stiffer shafts and also lighter shafts for PX shafts.

Thanks again!

You could always soft step the 5.5 and more or less split the difference. Dave- what do you think?

I agree; the two bend profiles show a subtle stiffness increase between the PXi 5.0 and PXi 5.5. The shafts are both the same weight, so a hard stepped 5.0 and a soft stepped 5.5 will be the same profile, so either of these options is a valid choice.

This thread has been fascinating reading (as an earlier poster aluded to). There is an awful lot of knowledge being dispensed. I always wondered what the particular numbers represented as the shaft recommendations it gave me were a bit of a surprise.

It's been a couple of years since I did that and the only number I remember was the SS was at 87 or 88. The recommended shafts were S300 and project X 5.0. It really came as a surprise because I've always felt the shafts that felt the best to me were either the 6.0 or 6.5. I still haven't tried any 5.0's but maybe this winter I'll try to pick up a set.

just wondering, does the order of the suggestions matter. from top to bottom, is the first shaft the most recommended and the third the least, or are the recommendations all similar and of the three, all fit your swing and the choice is then based on feel

All recommendations are equally valid and worthy of physical testing. With performance, feel and in some cases cost driving the final choice.

Hi, just wondering if someone could punch my numbers in for the shaft optimizer. 93 6335

Here are your Shaft recommendations:

Dynamic Gold X100

Project X 6.5

KBS Tour X
Nothing surprising given your healthy club head speed. The KBS C Taper X is also worth testing if your tempo sometimes a little faster than 6.

My buddies 14 year old son had readings of 77, 6, 3, 4, 7. Can anyone help? Thanks

Recommendations are:

Steel

Dynalite Gold XP S 300 soft stepped

Nippon 950 S

KBS Tour S soft stepped
Graphite

Project X 5.0

Orochi Stiff-regular
Swing speed only just makes it into the S flex shaft models, so in this case, the regular flex models of the steel shafts are also valid matches. The softer flex offers a useful weight saving (10 grams in the case of the KBS) and they could be hard stepped once if required.

Going in to get fitted for a set of Mizuno MP-64 this weekend.
Anyone aware of the typical shafts they will try to fit for? I am pretty sure the on the rack version has S-300's.
I am curious if the KBS Tour would be available without an increase to sticker price.

If you live in the US, there is no upcharge for KBS Tour. There is for C Taper.

Be well.

 • 2 weeks later...

Went to a fitting earlier this week. Tweaked a muscle a few days before in my lower back. Rethinking my decision to go through with the fitting now. Anyway, my swings were 81, 82, 88, 88 and 89, which I assumed they averaged to 86. Took me a bit to get loose enough to turn through agressively; however, 86 seemed relatively close to my prior numbers on other monitors. I had hit at Golfsmith the month before and had a range of 85-89 on 10 swings.

Told the guy doing the fitting about the back and he didn't think it would skew the numbers. Factors were 4, 4,3, 8...I think. The toe and kick numbers might be reversed. I didn't get a printout. They seemed to be in a big hurry. I was the second to last appointment and they were running late. It was already 30 minutes past their closing time. Anyway, I was given the option of Dynalite Gold xp s300, PXI5.5 or KBS Tour stiff. I selected the Dynalite.

I decided to buy on a whim (MP59 5-PW, MPH4 3&4). Immediately I had buyers remorse. Is it unreasonable to put a stop on the order , wait a few days until the back is feeling good and get a second opinion to confirm the numbers? Like I said, I think the ss is relatively accurate, but I am not confident about the other numbers.

Well, for the hell of it I decided to go to Edwin Watts today to alleviate my concerns. The guy was nice enough to let me use the optimizer without charging me. Of course he didn't do a full fitting. My numbers were comparable for the most part: 87- 5, 4, 4, 6. I would be really curious to know how it would affect my shaft options. Any help would be appreciated.

Mid tempo and release with a healthy club head speed results in the following (pretty standard) recommendations

Dynamic Gold S 300

Project X 5.5

KBS Tour stiff
Depending on how your averages run regrading your release especially if your release has a tendency to get a little earlier the Dynalite Gold S 300 and PXi 5.5 become valid options.

Thanks Davemac. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can contact Mizuno quick enough to make the change. I have heard good things about their customer support.

just to be clear matt, the optimiser software provides the shaft recommendations but the golfer will still have a preference for one, perhaps two of the shafts recommended, that is why final testing (preferably with a launch monitor) is important.

Understood. I tried two of them and really didn't like either. To be honest, at that point, the more swings I made, the tighter my back was getting. I shouldn't have made the purchase.
