Mizuno shaft optimizer. I forgot my recommendations. Can anyone check my numbers?

Thanks again Dave!

I think I may go the C Taper stiff route although it may take some time to adjust to the back weighting of the shafts.

The counterbalanced nature of the KBS line does provide a very different balance to the Dynamic Gold which is heavier in the tip. I always recommend you try/test before you buy! If you are not going down the Mizuno route then the C Tapers in R+ are worth testing and the new C Taper lite in S flex.
Hope you find something you like.

My DNA numbers are 82 5 5 5 6 The top suggestion was Dynalite Gold XP S300
Does this sound about right or what might my other options be?
Yes this is right and the two other recommendations are:

Project X PXi 5.0 (Standard Project X 5.0 is European recommendation)

KBS Tour S soft-stepped
Recommended XP S300 Hardstepped. Might be a tag high for my liking in the short irons.
Your help is appreciated!
DNA Software recommends:

Dynalite Gold XP S300 (straight in)

Project X PXi 5.5

KBS Tour S
The factors driving the recommendations are your tempo which is medium (mid-weight shafts and slightly softer than expected base flex) and your release which is early (hence softer tipped shafts from the options (relatively speaking)).

As usual the proof is always in the testing, the Dynalite Gold XP S300 bend profile is not currently available but it would be considered the highest launching of the three recommendations. Based on your release factor I would expect more difference in spin rather than launch angle. Hard stepping the Dynalite Gold XP S300 won't make a significant difference to its performance. So you should test the Project X PXi 5.5 (+ the standard Project X 5.5) and the KBS Tour (if you have not done so already).

If you want to ensure a lower flight, your swing speed is not far away from generating a match for the same shafts one flex stronger so the Dynalite Gold XP X100 and the PXi 6.0 should be tested at the same time.

Hope this helps.

74 7-4-6-9, Recommended shafts please...

Software recommends

Dynalite Gold XP R300

Project X PXi 5.0

KBS Tour regular
You numbers show you have a fairly quick tempo and a very early release, if you are not working with a coach at the minute, you might think about seeing someone for at least one lesson, I would think they could help you improve your numbers quite quickly helping you gain some club head speed into the bargain. There is scope in the recommended shafts to accommodate any moderate improvement, if you are really keen to get some new clubs.

Seems like a case of déjà vu, I am sure I posted these recommendations a few days ago, perhaps for someone else!

The DNA(88,3,4,4,8) gives the following recommendations

Steel

True temper GS 95 S300

Nippon NS pro 950 S

Project X PXi 5.5
Graphite

Project X 5.0
The slow tempo (3) is the major driver for these recommendations, if it increased slightly then the two lighter steel shafts would be replaced by the Dynalite Gold XP and KBS Tour S. Graphite jumps to the Project X 5.5

Hi DaveMac! I wonder if you could give me the US and UK suggestions for these: 89, 4, 3, 4, 6. My fitter said he hadn't updated the software so the C-tapers weren't going to show up no matter the figures, but just want to check. Also, it didnt recommend the Nippon 1150 S which i was fitted for three years ago when I was younger (15) so is this shaft a big change from the new recommendations? Many thanks

The Recommendations from both the USA and European shaft options are the same.

Dynamic Gold X100 Soft stepped

Project X 6.0

KBS Tour X Soft stepped
For the Nippon 1150 S to remain a recommendation the swing speed needs to be a little slower and the release point needs to be a little earlier.
A DNA of (88,4,3,4,7) Gives

Dynalite Gold XP S300

KBS Tour S

Nippon NS Pro 1150 S
The C Tapers only show up when the release gets late < 4.

As always the proof of the pudding is always in the final testing, the Nippons might be a little weak for your current swing but if the numbers are good and you like the feel then stick with them.

Hey, I didn't use the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer, but perhaps you have some suggestions for me:

I'm playing the mp-32 and sometimes struggle to get the long irons into the air due to a steap AoA (6i launches 12-15°).
6i SS is 90-93, current shaft is DG S300.

What shaft would produce a higher ball flight? Or would your first choice be a different head, e.g. Mp-H4?

Swing speed alone is not the best way to narrow down shaft choices (tempo, and release point are equally important) and there is not a lot of wiggle room with regards to a shaft increasing your launch angle. Based on your current shaft, your swing speed and your launch preferences, I would start your search with the KBS Tour, your swing speeds suggests X flex but it might be better to go slightly softer (soft-stepping X, S+ or S).

I don't think the H4's would make enough of a difference so you might want to look in the direction of G25's or something similar, granted they are not pretty but the offset and wide sole will make a difference. It is easy enough to find somewhere with a launch monitor these days, so check out a few options.

In the meantime you could weaken the lofts on your MP 32's a max of 2 degrees is recommended, this will add a bit of bounce which is probably a good thing.

Ultimately, it would be worthwhile swallowing your strike, equipment can't do it all.

Best of luck.

Would a dynamic gold R300 fit these numbers?
Dynamic Gold R300 would not be a recommendation for this DNA mainly because the tempo is classed a slow, so the goal would be to keep some weight out of the shaft.

As I have said a number of times you should always play the shaft you are most comfortable with (assuming the numbers are reasonable.)

Tried the optimizer last night. Numbers were 84-4-4-4-1. Currently play MP-67 w/ S300, considering MP-4 with maybe something a little lighter.

A couple of things:
- was swinging with a stiff neck, so speed is down ~6mph from normal, but other numbers are likely the same; how different would the recommendations be?
- which shafts (suggested or otherwise) would provide a high launch & flight?

Thanks,
Alan

DNA produces the following matches (Dynamic Gold S300, Project X 5.5, C Taper S, Project X 5.5 graphite) + 6 MPH gives (Dynamic Gold X100 soft stepped, Project X 6.0, C Taper X soft stepped, Project X 6.0 graphite)

The highest launching of the recommendation is likely to be the Project X (and the Project X graphite if you are OK with the weight)

The biggest factor driving the recommendations, is the very late release factor (1) making the software look for tip stable shafts (DG and C taper). Your tempo is smooth, so you won't overload the butt of the shaft in the transition, making the smoother lighter PXi 6.0 a possibility, provided it does not produce too much spin with your full speed and release.

Interesting you mention the PXi 6.0, as I hit it in the X Forged last night and liked it. Will need to see how it behaves at normal speeds though. Thanks for the info.

Edit: How would a Modus 120 fit with my DNA, assuming the 1150 would not be a viable option?

Alan
