My home putter restoration

This is how it started:






This is where we are now:





I stripped the paint with CitriPeel. I sanded it down with 220 grit, then 400 grit, then 600 grit, then steel wool.
I gunblued it (of course, it's stainless steel, so the blue only took in the stampings, but it looks cool there, and gave the back a nice patina...). I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it like this and do some paintfill, or do a black oxide coat and then paintfill...

What do you guys/gals think?

In my opinion oxide on back looks great. Paint fill on face on Yes logo, maybe 2 color.

You should turn around and sell it! List is as such " Brand spanking new model from Yes called the "Hungsolo". Guranteed to take 5 strokes from your score or your money back" Well, maybe leave off the part about a money back guarantee :fool: JK... Looks great. Set it off with some yellow paintfill. You could even take a blowtorch to it and call it a "Flame" finish. Tour only.. 1 out of 1 :)

No, I don't. But I didn't know how to do this either. There's a black oxide kit for stainless steel. It can't be that hard, and if I ruin it, it's not like I'm losing out on anything great....

Tony...I was just thinking....since you don't want to dump a ton of money in this, maybe bead blast the back side and add paintfill. Low on glare, even color and I think it would look pretty good. :fool:

I agree, beadblasting th eback will clean it up even more, not that it looks bad. Very nice job considering what you had to work with...

actually the back looked clean, then I tried to gunblue stainless steel, so now it has that patina. I could strip it back off and leave it matte, but I kinda like it how it is now. I think I might just do some paintfill.

Yes it did.

 

I used sandpaper. I started with 120 grit and worked my way up to 600 grit. Then finished it off with steel wool. I used lots of 3 in 1 oil while sanding. All done by hand. Didn't really take too long, maybe an hour.

If it were me, I'd just leave it as is, no paint fill, no black, no nothing.

 

From your photos, it looks very nice and unique as is, maybe I'd put the too short shaft back in (kidding).
