Garmin watch

Recommended Posts

I was just checking on the Neo+ watch, I have the regular Neo+ (and now a upro mx+). The manual didn't have anything about remapping, or setting gps points. That is the one feature of the Neo+ that I really like, I like simple front/middle/back and few specific points, like layup zones, bunkers, water, etc. It also came in handy at a local course that reconfigured the back nine, stopped using one hole, made two holes into one, and added two additional holes. With the Neo+ the first time I played I remapped the greens to the correct hole, and didn't have to wait for any course updates. I haven't played that course with my new upro mx+, but I do know the pro mode version of the course has the old layout still.

I don't typically wear a watch, at all, so I don't think I would be comfortable swinging with one on either. Could strap it to the bag hand loop and have a pretty good idea of yardages from wherever the bag/cart is.

Neither did I - but I found it very easy to adjust to wearing one. Less than a round and I wasn't even thinking about it anymore.

Just got back from a week long golf trip using my S3 for the first time. Found the watch very comfortable and after a few holes, didn't even notice wearing it. Found the yardages to be very accurate but wish it had more pre stored lay up and hazard points. I know that it allows you to store trap and hazar locations, but when you are playing a course for the first time it's of no help. I also tended to forget to mark spots that would be helpful the next time I played a course as its a little combersome and time consuming.

The week long trip included five different courses in Mesquite, NV which I have played before so I knew of some trouble but it would have been helpful to have some aerial views or yardages to hidden hazards, drop offs and carry distances. I ended up using my iPhone with GolfShot GPS for areal views in conjunction with the S3 yardages.

Main issue is the battery life. We typically play 27 holes a few days and the battery went dead each day on hole 23-25. 18 holes is no problem but for anyone playing 27 or 36 holes you better look for another product. I am strongly considering returning mine even though I like it a lot. If there was some sort of battery extender or way of charging during the round, I would not hesitate to keep it.

any reason to get the Garmin S3 over the S1 ? thanks
[/quote]

These are the differences - it's up to you to figure out if it's worth the extra money.

S3 over the S1
1) has a touch screen and a green view that and allows you to 'place the pin' on the green and get adjusted distances to that point
2) you can add you're own custom points/locations
3) can keep score for you (downloadable to your computer)

The new S2 appears to be the same as the S1 but with the score keeping functionality added and some predetermined layup points (doglegs and hazards?) added as well instead of just yardages to the green.

If you are as stylish as a Jack Golden Pearsall, you'd wear the S2.

Why spend fiddy more and look like some Zynga clown with an S3?

Bushnell charges tor courses on some units. Mine locked up and no longer syncs. Even installing a new Pc interface froze $35 for a 100 courses I cant access? Oey.......

Mathwiz is curious of which units you are referring to as far as charging for course updates so he can avoid these models.

I got the S-2 and it seems VERY inaccurate at times. It also skips to the next few holes a few times per round. Anyone else have these problems or is mine just a dud. I may go back to a rangefinder.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
