Do you wear a watch?

I wear a watch all the time besides in the shower, in bed, and golfing. Undeniable fact of golf is that it takes a long time, when I am waiting on the tee I rather be drinking a beer or chatting it up with buddies rather than looking down every two seconds say "GOD-expletive! The 5some in front of us have taken 13minutes and 43 seconds to hit their second shot!"

Golf is a timeless game and I prefer to keep it that way

and a wedding ring.

Years ago, I heard that the impact from hitting a golf ball sent shock waves that could damage a watch. When I found that was not supported, I started keeping my watch on. Used to take my wedding ring off because it bothered me. Learded that if it bothers me, I'm gripping way too hard.

I am amazed that both Phil and Bubba wear watches when they play and it doesn't distract them. I think Phil has always worn one. And Bubba's is this GIGANTIC one and I think on the Feherty show on the Golf Channel he said it was around 500k.

Why? Do they ever look at them and say "hmmmm.... it's 12:30, time for my snack"....

You just helped me figure out a problem I've had. I've used everything from an old eyeglasses case to a soft velvet drawstring bag. That Oakley case is PERRRFECTTTTTT !!!

Don't wear any of mine while playing, but I'd like to second the use of an Oakley watch case. They are the best.

If I go from work to the course it goes in the Oakley. Of I go on the weekend I leave the watch at home.

Phil wears a watch because as an amateur he got thrown by looking at other peoples swings so he started wearing a watch and staring at it while his playing partners were hitting. I guess it became a habit after that.

Some golfers (Bubba) I assume wear a watch because they feel weird if they don't have one on or just like the look. Also Bubba's watch might be large but its designed to be ultra light weight so its not as noticeable as other watches its size. Oh and he's sponsored by Richard Mille (the watch maker) so I'm sure he didn't pay for it and is most likely getting paid to wear it.

On another note I wear this:

Its a Citizen Eco Drive golf watch, its nice and light so I don't notice it and its designed to take the shock from a golf swing so I don't need to worry about damaging the movement. It's also what I wear whenever I don't want to wear a nicer watch, its relatively cheap so I wouldn't be *too* upset if anything happened to it.

Wow... nice watch ... I wear an eco-drive as my "nice" watch. It is the silver metal version w/black face.
Interesting tidbit about Phil. Didn't even think of that. Wonder how many lefties he ran into as an amateur. Heard during the masters that he is a 2 handicap while playing right handed. WOW.
RE: Bubba - Maybe he is paid $$$ to wear it by his sponsor? Kind of ties in with the name on his shirt collar....

Thanks, its definitely my favorite watch I've owned even though it isn't particularly expensive or complicated.

And yes Bubba is sponsored by Richard Mille, they also sponsor Nadal. Bubba's watch is actually a golf specific version of Nadal's signature model. I'm not sure what exactly his deal is with them but I guarantee you he didn't pay a cent for the watch and is getting some pretty nice checks to wear it.

I picked up an interesting piece recently -- an Anonimo D-Date on the SS bracelet, and I could not be happier. These were the makers of Panerai before the firm was purchased and moved from Florence to Switzerland. It is not a chronometer-grade movement, but the case and especially the bracelet are, IMO, equal to or superior to any Rolex or Omega.

EDIT: Not worn while playing -- never have worn a watch while playing golf.

We are more or less ALWAYS governed by time constraints during our lives and especially our working days

Why oh why would you want to be ruled by the same ticking watchdog when you've escaped to play a game you so love with mates that enjoy banter but not business talk.

Never mind the fit or the feel, live a little freely, take a pressure off

Just enjoy what time you have....

I love watches, and I used to play with my watch on, until it malfunction due to golf shocks (was a cheap watch at the time). Now that I started collecting some swiss watches I don't play with a watch on anymore since they're too valuable and don't want to submit them to golf course abuse :).

I would however be tempted to buy a golf purpose watch just because I love buying watces :)

I use to wear a watch but my playing partner advised against it, and I trust his judgement. For me the difference is the weight and more feel on the left wrist/hand but I think I swing faster without it. Just different.

I learned my lesson with watches and sports when I broke my wrist over my watch snowboarding. Golf isn't exactly high impact but the experience still has me shook.

Dude, you're the 1st one that I heard broke their wrist over their watch and I've been riding since 94. Most guys I know snap their bones with those silly wrist guards. Gotta avoid the ice mate. Hope you're ok now ;)

I don't wear one as it restricts my wrist **** on the backswing. Might be a probelm all lefties face or is it just me?

Oddly enough the 2 players on tour that first come to mind who wear watches while they play are Phil and Bubba, both lefties. I don't know off hand which wrist they wear it on. I'm a righty so I'm not sure about your question.

As far as me, I never wore a watch while playing, but then I put my Rolex on a nato/zulu (nylon) strap last summer and it was extremely comfortable so I was able to play with it on without noticing it.

My watch now is back on the bracelet, which I don't mind taking practice swings with, but I don't wear it during my rounds anymore because of a combination of 1) a little distracting and 2) fear of stretching out the bracelet.

Here is a pic of my watch on the nylon strap during one of my rounds...

I don't ever wear a watch because it drives me crazy having something on my wrist like that. Can't imagine putting one on to play golf. No other jewelry other than my wedding ring which is pretty much permanently attached to my finger. Don't even notice it's there because it's just a small gold band.

P.S. If I had a diamond earring or, better yet, a gold tooth I'd leave those in to play golf. But I don't have, unfortunately. :WTF:

I never wear a watch.

I have time on my phone, in my bag (with the ringtone off) in a pocket that's accessible when walking. I also have it on my gps.

As a consequence, wearing one would be purely cosmetic, such as ribbons in one's hair.
Me? Never. Uncomfortable because my watch is loose.

Last few tournaments I've watched, Phil always has a watch on. I would think it would restrict your wrist bend, but then again, he's a pro, and I am not.

Maybe he uses it as a training aid...:busted2:

I have two nice watches I like to wear all the time. I wear both golfing and to the range. One is a Rolex GMT II ... black and Red.

The other is a Graham Chronofighter Tourist Trophy limited run of 100. It is fairly large and still does not bother me
