this thread is interesting, but i disagree with the op... they aren't getting out of control, they have been out of control from the 90s on.

Anyone hear that guy yell "ridonkulous" after Cabrera 's drive on 18?

How can someone say that without feeling like an asshat, I know I couldn't.
He was doing it ALL day and was just beyond obnoxious. I'm surprised officials didn't kick him out.

when the Masters loses control of the crowd behavior, it becomes just another tournament with pretty flowers. they need to boot people all over the grounds, period. there are so many people that would give anything to be at the Masters even one time in their life, and these types of local yocal, hacker wannabe golfer, drunk off their arses, country club raised, silver spoon brats, that get to tag along with Dads corporate sponsorship tent and steal all the free liquor need to be shown the door. If I were running the Masters, one yell was severe warning, and yell two was permanent escort off the course for the week.

And, some people think that some of the stuff these people yell is funny.
and those people should be also escorted off the course for having really poor taste and clearly not the type you want at the Masters.

There was a kid at some point that yelled something as well. The problem is the allure of hearing yourself sounding like an arse on television. It's time to cut the mic's when the players are swinging or only utilize the mobile parabolic mic that is positioned directly behind the player so the crowd noise isn't as clear. Or reposition the mic's on the tee boxes so they're behind the tees and not on either side.

I love hearing the crack of that club at impact!! I put my surround sound up to hear the birds and soft voice of Jim Nantz. I then cringe when some dunce yells Babba Booey or Rocketballzier!

This here is the problem. Somewhere along the line, it has become perceived that trying to remove the obnoxious yelling from the game is "stuck-up".

Sorry but wanting to maintain respect and integrity is not "stuck-up". It is just being able to behave appropriately.

We don't go to our place of work and start yelling out stuff, we don't go to church or weddings and do it. We don't do it at shopping centers or our children's schools.

Is it really that hard for people to know what is appropriate and inappropriate and how to act accordingly?

I don't know what's worse, the guy yelling stupid stuff to hear himself on tv or the arm chair police that call in the rule violations from home.

In what other sport is this allowed? I can't call in a holding penalty for football, a traveling penalty for basketball, etc...

I take that back, I do know which is worse, the arm chair police, at least the guy yelling waits until after the ball is hit and doesn't effect the outcome of the game.

A few things here...yes, there are people who would give anything to be at the Masters and they can get in the lottery to get practice round tickets. Or they can make connections and network and hope to be invited. Or they can buy tickets through a ticket broker.

You aren't running the masters, but if you were, what would you do if you tried to kick one of those people out and found out that they were sober? What if they weren't country club raised? Would that be a deciding factor?

What would you do when they asked where on the ticket it states that there is a difference between cheering and yelling something? Can you kick someone out for yelling "Go Phil!" or is it only if they yell something like "get in the hole!"

you mean in the first couple of minutes??? :swoon:

Back on topic, you would think with all the patrons rules at the masters, like no runnning, they wouldn't tolerate the yelling or any commentary other than clapping, roaring, oooing and ahhing only.

But is it really fair for Tiger or other players at the top of the lead to be televised and have someone call in a rules violation? What about Craig Stadler who probably got zero tv time this week, he could have the same shot and no one could call it in.

Also, I would love to see how Nick Faldo and Brandel Chamblee would have handled that situation. I honestly doubt they would have dropped te ball in the original divot. It's easy to point out a broken rule for others. Look at our politicians for example.
