On the telecast, saw Mahan turn around and give a death stare to the spectator who yelled during his tee shot on 17. It's getting pretty ridiculous, I know they're professionals and all but say he dunked it in the water? Even though its only Friday, could have knocked him out of contention. Just don't understand what these tools get out of yelling. The large majority of spectators have to be shaking their heads.

I realize, to some unknown extent, public and private golf courses across the country are struggling; PGA tournaments and their venues not so much. LPGA is and so is the Champions tour. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to finding a way to rid events of those sleaze balls.

You nailed it too, they are annoying. I suspect they're not all that good at the game, and there's an argument suggesting, they are the same one's screaming on the golf course, getting drunk, annoying cart girls, not to mention, affecting pace of play. A few bad apples...

So is it unlawful for some entity selling a ticket to an event to require a person to refrain from yelling or talking loudly after a shot from the teeing ground?

The majority of the spectators, errrr . .UN HMMM . . . . PATRONS, have a right to watch the event without interruption or interference, or at least they should. What percentage prefers to watch the event without the stupid yelling, 98%??

Seriously, can a PATRON be required to control himself in a specific manner while on the premises?

Why does the follow through matter?

Americans are (on the whole) loud, crude people (at least in the opinion of Europeans). They like to cheer. They like to be loud. They like to drink. They like to have fun. This is golf (and tennis, and football, and baseball, and basketball, and hockey, and soccer) in the US. Yeah, they yell "get in the hole" and "mashed potatoes" ... AFTER the player hits the ball.

Any player (or fan) who's delicate sensibilities are insulted? Well you do not need to play on the PGA Tour, or watch it. Just play and watch the EU Tour. Everyone is so much better behaved. True, 3 out of the 4 majors are in the US, and the best EU players all seem to want US cards because they can make way more money here ... but still ... feel free to lecture.

It's funny, though. If you go back and watch old tourneys it's not really that much better, though at least they confined shouting to shots into the green and putts. Watched the replay of the 96 players and there were plenty of "get in the holes".

Welcome to televised professional sports.. Personally, I'd like to see more outburst in pro golf, as we see in the NBA or any other sport.. Now there would be a true test of mental acuity to be able to putt that 3 footer for the US Open title while a group of numnuts are yelling "NOONAN".. For crying out loud even Tennis has out burst while playing a rally.. Are pro golfers that thin skinned they can't take a little razzing or out burst from fans?

I've been to various PGA Tour tournaments and I've never seen crowds out of control, ever. Even at the waste management tournament, it's incredibly organized and most of the course is virtually fan free. Given how many people I've seen at some events, it's incredible how quiet and respectful people are overall. It will never be perfect for the players, but if players had more fun with the crowds, and accepted that it won't always be perfectly quiet, than they wouldn't be that effected by this kind of stuff. Obviously if someone is shouting crude personal attacks at players they should be ejected, and the way to enforce that is with law enforcement and security.
