Most forgiving irons w/ thinner topline/not-huge soles

I have the Wilson Ci9's and agree those are very underrated and excellent for the price. However, the B'stone J40 DPC's are absolutely awesome and have taken over my bag, 5-P. The Ci9's have a very thick sole which makes them difficult to use in some instances, esp. out of the rough and tight lies. The J40 DPC's have one of the best sole grinds you can buy off the rack, shallow c-grind. Try them, if you can find them. One more thing; check out the B'stones' unusually high MPF rating, all the way up to game improvement.

There have been three sets of J38 DPCs posted on the BST within the last four days. I would definitely support that recommendation. I recently sold a set that I loved, but only to replace them with some J40 CB's I got a great deal on. Good luck.

That's a thin top line? :stop:

Haha I had the same impression, but I didn't want to say anything.

I actually had the Cobra AMPs for a bit before swapping them out too.

well, you missed a set of Ci7's in mint condition for $100 on the bay yesterday. I like to experiment with backup sets and will be looking around for something with similar aspects. Probably could find a set of RAC LTs between $140-$200 on the bay.

also, it's a shame the Nike VR_S Forged aren't in the budget.

It's the 6 iron from the amp flow set, not a GI iron. Other than less offset there's not much difference in the top line.

I have Cobra AMPS --- like the irons a lot, but agree that they're not either thin on top or down below.

My usual playing set is some old forged Mizuno Comp EZ's --- which ARE relatively thin-soled with a thin topline and VERY forgiving (no less so than the much newer technology Cobras)...you can sometimes find sets of these on Ebay in good condition very, very cheaply --- I would put them up against anything today in the GI category.

I can't believe this is three pages and no one has mentioned the Rocketbladez Tour irons. Not only are they only slightly wider top line than the players TP MC iron, but are extremely forgiving for a players iron, especially when you get to the longer clubs and the slot (not just for distance, or rather in the tour version not really for distance at all). These are also the best feeling and producing cast and cavities I have hit in quite some time. I think they feel better than the AP2s and are slightly more forgiving. I would consider them if I needed more forgiveness in my irons, I have thought about it.

Im leaning toward the bridgestone CB over the DPC because of the long heel to toe design of the DPC. Could anyone comment on how forgiving the CB is over the DPC?

Here you go scottleo. Remember to take these numbers with a grain of salt. I would personally go and hit both before buying.

Not a clue what any of that means, but I'm going to assume the DPCs are more forgiving.

Picked up the J38 DPCs from classified for a great price! Super excited to get them, although I'll have to reshaft the X100s to a much softer shaft. I know...I can't hang...

Are the J40s significantly "better" (subjective) than the J38s? I've heard from many places that there isn't much of a difference but everyone here seems to mention the J40s. Is that just because it's the current model?

I am on the road this evening so I stopped but the Golf Galaxy to kill time. I looked at almost every set of irons they had, although I did not see any Bridgestones. I am incredibly picky about whay I like to look at in a club and the two I liked the best were the Ping S56 and the RocketBlades Tour.

I hate offset, and I hate to see the trailing edge or sole from address behind the top line, drives me nuts. I only want to see the top line, the face, and the leading edge, with no offset.

MPF and MOI are higher on the DPC than the CB. It means it is a more forgiving club.

The J40 CB's are better than the J38 CB's. On the other hand, the J38 and the J40 DPC's are basically the same with the exception of how the pockets in the back are opened.

The J38 and J40 DPC play the same with the exception that people say they can hear the J38's "whistle" with a fast swing.
