Most forgiving irons w/ thinner topline/not-huge soles

I'm playing old school Mizuno MX-20s. They're more forgiving than JPX Pros but have much thinner top-lines and cost about 20% as much.

They also feel great and look pretty classic with not much offset. You're welcome...

I've become obsessed with the look of clubs that have thinner toplines and not fat soles (shovels?).

The problem here is thatI DO NOT have the game to back it up. In your experience, what would be the most forgiving clubs you've played that don't have huge toplines and soles? I game the JPX 800 now and they are...fat.

Another question that I'd love for the community to answer: Do the fat soles' purpose have mostly to do with the divots afterwards? The last time I went to the range, I was digging a good amount. Will a thinner sole worsen the effects of this or is it mostly in my swing?

Hope you take this the right way. Looks to me you are to fussy about looks, yes we all need to like our tools. If you absolutely can`t stand GI irons then get players cavities and "make them work" if you can. Lots of practice

If you need to try something then go to Ebay and look for a 5/6 P.iron to practice with, then weigh whether looks are as important to you compared to the time it takes to play Players irons and the pressure it puts on you to make a consistent repeating swing most of the time. You will either love them or hate em.

If major OEM is not a factor, take a look at some Wishon 560 mc's. Kind of a midsize, reasonably thin sole and top line, little offset iron head. They're very, very nice.

Love love love these. The only problem is that a new full set would cost $200 + $130 per stick. That's a good amount too much than I'm willing to spend at the moment. If I could find a used set, which I've tried hard to find, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I hate you ruled out the X-Hot Pro's as well. In my mind they look great and perform great as well. The next good option might be the I20s?

I think Adams CB2s would be a good option, too. I can't compare them to current models as I've settled on these and not even thinking of straying -- they are plenty forgiving and are no way offensive to the eye at address. Great sticks!

+1 for the Wilson Ci9s. These are great clubs, and if you can find a set with the FST shafts in them, even better.
A buddy of mine bought a set of Bridgestone J40s and I really like them, but not enough to switch out the Wilson's. I think the Ci9s are the most underrated clubs out there. They can be had for next to nothing and they are as good as any new offering. I am curiously awaiting the Ci13s to see if they are significantly better. I did not think the Ci11s were any better than the Ci9s.

Srixon i503 bamm! My previous gamer's before my B'stones. Lots of forgiveness and thinner tops than my J40 DPC's. Wish I never donated them to a buddy of mine. I'd imagine if you find a set it would be less than $150

edit should be i506

Think I've narrowed it down to either the J38/J40 or the CB1/CB2s...now just trying to find a good deal.

or maybe the ztx-2s, but that might be going in too far in the players iron direction....

Based off of what I want and need. The thin toplines are sexy, yet they have the forgiveness to help my game. Plus I'm naturally attracted to forged heads I suppose. Will check out the ci9's as well even though they're not forged.

Helps a lot that they're both affordable too.

Sounds like you have made up your mind, but the Adams CMB's ended up as my choice when looking for thin top line and forgiving. Hit most all,the contenders at a demo day last weekend...XHP's, MP59, JPX Pro 825, TM Rbz Tours, MP 64, XForged '13, Cleveland 588's (did not try any Nike or Ping products). CMB's were not a thought until the first 4 swings with them and I walked out with a set on order.

If you're attracted to the feel of forged heads then I'd say +1 to the recommendations for the PING S-56. It is not a forged head but the feel is awesome. I initially (and stick with my recommendation) said the i20 over the S-56 because you get the thin topline with extreme forgiveness but the S-56 is just a little less forgiving than the i-20 but with less offset and a little softer feel.

Callaway 2013 X Forged and it's not even close.
How forgiving would you rate them? For toe or thin hits?
Very forgiving on thin shots, my miss...loss of about 5-7 yards at most. I don't miss much on the toe with these, way less than the I 20's I used to game; having said that, they're more penal off the toe than on thin shots.
